Anyone who wants to blame the ref yesterday is just looking for excuses. Yes the ref was poor but the rank amateur defending that allowed Smith a free header at the near post, a non clearance to the edge of the 18 yard box, and a simple 5 yard pass from Anderton to Collins that didn’t make it we’re the reasons we lost. The ref just made a couple of poor decisions and I thought he handled the second half pretty well. The real cause of the problems were formation and tactics: Grant at RB - he’s not a RWB, can’t play as a RWB abs will never be a RWB. That’s not his fault, it’s the same as when Tisdale put Ehmer there. Poorly defended, couldn’t get forward and we offered little attacking down that side. Anderton - what a shocker he had for 45 mins. I’ll just sum him up as totally incompetent. Loss markers, lost possession, out ran by opposition players, won little in the air. Taylor and Alfie were leading him when it should be the other way around. Whelan - Sat so deep that he suffocated the CBs and had a 20 yard gap to any other central midfielder it was easy for LO to press and break down. Collins - completely outrun, outfought and offered no width. Only got forward twice the whole game. Pitman - Won nothing, can’t chase, can’t battle, can barely move, doesn’t win anything aerially and unless you put it on the end of his boot 2 yards out looks like he won’t get close to scoring a goal. You couldn’t blame Belshaw, Alfie or Taylor for much yesterday imo. If there was going to be a MOM I would give it Finley. At least he looks fit, like he cares and tries his heart out to defend and make something happen. Evans and Junior Brown had solid games, but when you have no idea to utilise what those players offer you won’t create much. All of the above lies at the feet of Barton. What is Grant's position though?! Because to me he looks sh** everywhere he plays. I've never known someone consistently play so poorly that consistently gets in the team so much. Maybe these "proper football men" know more than me?!??! He’s a bloody good defensive midfielder and there’s a reason players like McCormick and Finley always look better when they’ve got Grant alongside them. Definitely not a wingback though and putting him there to accommodate Whelan yesterday was the biggest mistake of the day. Whelan looks neat and tidy but is never going to be the physical presence there that Grant is. The way I see it, if we play 3 in the middle, Grant and Finley pick themselves and then there is one place left for the likes of Whelan, Coutts, Evans, Westbrooke etc to fight over Which for me would vary depending on the opposition.

How can you let the leagues top scorer free in the box for a corner. Disgraceful. Its not like he can sneak anywhere at 6' 5"

Anderton looks a shocking signing - slow, can't pass and obviously crap at marking at corners judging by Saturday.

What’s annoying for me was I watched the first 15 minutes of ifollow replay just so I could see the incident when Collins got pass his defender only for the ref to mysteriously say he committed a foul (definitely a wrong decision) but some of our football in that opening period was decent, just so annoying we keep giving away soft goals.

I thought we might actually get a LB/LBW who could actually defend but we have actually managed to get a slower version of Leahy but without the goals.

Couldnt bring myself to post after that showing until now (and it took 6 hours instead of 2 to get back by train!) I look at (most of the players) and they should be good enough. The exception for me are Anderton and Whelan shouldnt be starting. Grant shouldnt be playing as a RWB. We dont have a striker worthy of the name. So what to be done? Surely JB has to pick a team and style and stick with it until it works. Or he'll be gone anyway
Belshaw/Anssi Kilgour Taylor Harries RWB?? Grant Finley Clarke/Brown Saunders Evans STRIKER???
Collins and Anderson work hard, so could also get in there. Thomas still to prove his worth. The above with Ajunga up top would have stood a chance? Why let him go with noone to replace him!
Left my Season ticket in BRistol as I dont know if I can bring myself back for the Swindon game!

I'll throw a spanner in the works and say that I didn't think we were that bad. Collins was through but defender managed to get a free kick, they scored not long after. Heads went down, but we picked ourselves up and went again. 2 defensive mistakes and 3 down at half time. Bit harsh I thought. Not as if they battered our goal. I know we didn't cause them much trouble but I think the scoreline flattered them. One thing I'm surprised at considering JB as Manager, is that we don't know how to play the Ref. They had him in his pocket within 5 minutes. Keeper should have taken a yellow for time wasting within the first 30 mins, they certainly knew how to win a free kick and sure as hell knew what getting the physio on every 10 minutes would do to the game. Ah well, just my view. Quite a few times the physio came on and knelt next to the player and did nothing. On one occasion he squirted water...near the players arm...when the player had a so called leg injury. Break up play ,stop momentum . They did it well.

Surely there will be more leg injuries when "headless" football is introduced? Wondering what supporters' reaction will be to this inevitable outcome?

I thought that this would come with the Barton regime, but we still seem like the Corinthian Casuals when it comes to the dark arts.
