Sadly we’re a lower league fixture for Oxford now. It would be a bit like us drawing Yeovil. A bit of an ‘oh well’
As pointed out the cup isn’t that exciting of an affair unless we draw a big name. We tend to do awful ourselves.

I doubt we'll attract much more than that ourselves, and we will be playing someone from a higher league. People in glass houses and all that...

Hopefully we can aspire to be tinpot ourselves one day, but I think that may be a little out of our reach at the moment.

The last time we were allowed supporters at home for a 1st round FA cup side against lower opposition was the 19/20 season against Bromley FC. We had a crowd of 3,649. So we’re definitely not in a position to judge.

It’s a bit of a weird thing to be posting misleading stats about your own club.

Second tier maybe, but if we were hosting Yeovil for example in the 1st round, which again is a second tier derby that most people don't actually consider to be much of a derby, I don't think we'd get much more than 5k or so. The FA Cup just doesn't get the majority excited anymore.

That said, I agree with your overall point and this thread is embarrassing, all it highlights to me is the gap that has been created between the 2 teams in a very short time.

That’s Bolshie talk Certainly not meant to be bolshie, it's what I actually believe, and I think it's a reasonable, albeit hypothetical, comparison to today's game. Considering as you took issue with Charlton Hayes' post not being a good enough comparison. But then, you are one of the most argumentative posters on here, so I'm not surprised you took issue with my post as well.

I think if our positions were reversed there would have been a bigger turnout because the cup is all about the underdog at this stage. The thing about playing lower league opposition is you are on a hiding to nothing and there's no glory in winning, just embarrassment if you don't.

Thought this thread was going to be about Oxfords very odd decision to have only 3 sides with fans, anyone know the original reason and why they have not bothered to finish it since ?, could always sell them our tents when we redevelop!

I think you can call it a rivalry rather than a derby as there's a fair bit of history with this fixture. I also agree that if we played someone in the league below us (take Notts County for an example as we had a bit of a rivalry with them in the past) then for sure we would have had a much lower crowd than for a league game. Even if we were in the top six.

I would expect a crowd of 3,500 to 4,500 for the replay, depending on how many they bring.
I expect TG will make the Mem 2 sided for this one. ie close the West Stand as per Brighton, Coventry and Sunderland in previous cup games and maybe the South Stand as well if Oxford don't bring many.
That helps put off home fans from going as well. Still keeps costs down.
