As others have already said, the upwards progression of the side is there for all to see over the last month or so - but there’s still a couple of areas letting us down and stopping us from turning what are now fairly consistently good performances into consistent wins.
Goes without saying that we’re crying out for a fit & mobile goalscorer in January to help us kill off games like last night, but IMO our defence is the area that needs the most work in the next transfer window.
I like Harries for 95% of his performances but he’s always got a costly error or lapse of concentration in him, Grant isn’t a RB and neither is Anderson, Kilgour is out for “the foreseeable” and Hughes has disappeared off the face of the earth.
Get a new partner for Taylor, an out-and-out RB and a mobile #9 to finish the chances we create and we’ll be cooking I reckon.

To add, like JB or loath him as a person, as a manager he’s trying to build a winning side with all players pulling in the right direction.
As fans, we want players to perform like that, last year we had a bunch of lightweights, bystanders and players who didn’t care enough. I’m some ways I’m glad he’s telling us how it is and if any do ship out in Jan, we will know why.
He’s also been in elite environments all of his career so will know what works and what doesn’t. He gives another example in that article:
“The geezer who got sent off for them, Hunter, we had him at Fleetwood. Really ill-disciplined, thought he knew the difference and he could do things that other people didn’t do.
"Look at him now. His career, from being a really talented League One player. What was he on the pitch today? Ten minutes?
"He hasn’t learned and grown up and learned those lessons.
"Before the game, LT is talking to him and I’m saying he’s the last person in this ground you want to talk to. You don’t want to catch what he’s got.
"I tell him about getting wired in. I’ve seen so many young players who think they’re going to be the exception to the rule, they’re going to be the ones who do not live their lives right, who can eat fast food, drink fizzy drinks and turn up and think they’re going to perform.“
Is JB wrong about Hunter? Well the fact he’s playing for L2 Salford, as a sub and he was crap suggests he does know a thing or 3.

I am no fan of JB but I can't see how any blame can be put on him for last nights crazy final few minutes, the substitutions seemed the right ones at the right time. Sometimes mad things happen in football matches, like last tuesday night for example. Things do happen in football matches, like dropping 2 points to 10 man Colchester and again to 10 man Barrow. This is something I've seen with Rovers ever since I first started watching, we are pretty rubbish at breaking down a team who have had a player sent off. Not just a JB issue. As soon as I saw the red card I thought 'here we go again'. Not getting that two goal cushion was key.

The game should have at least finished 0-1, we should have but the game to bed, but the defence didn't do their job and we concede a sloppy goal. I'm not a fan of JB, but I wouldn't put it down to his fault why we drew against 9 men at the end.. That's down to the players imo

Deflecting blame and slaughtering a young lad that has previously suffered mental health problems, instead of questioning himself and his game management and why his team have thrown another 2 points away after surrending a 2 goal lead in the previous game, dropped 2 points against 10 man Colchester and earlier dropping another 2 points against 10 man Barrow. Bit a bit of a pattern emerging there. All Luke Thomas' fault though. I don’t think there was anything wrong with the substitutions and the way the game played out Salford sat in with 10 men behind the ball and made it hard to break down. Nicho was starting to blow and Collins showed nothing of any end product throughout the game. Pitman and Thomas were able replacements to attempt to net us a second. Thomas has had an attitude problem at Barnsley and Ipswich. Whether that is mental health or not I don’t know but his reputation is preceding him off the field rather than the quality of his football on it. Like JB said, no point reflecting what a good player you could have been rather than showing what a good player you are. JB will know Thomas better than us, and perhaps knows how to make him tick better than us, he was also absolutely right to call out the shocking miss when he’s through on goal. He needs to bury that. Yes calling him out in public will really help. Not. With narcissist Barton it's always someone else's fault. Maybe he's better off questioning his own game management and why we dropped 2 points at the weekend from a two goal leading position and previously failed to beat 10 man Colchester and 10 man Barrow. He could then question why we only have the crock Pitman (who can't run) as our solitary no.9 option, after signing the 36-year-old crock Clarke, who had 2 hamstring injuries and a back operation last season.

He could then question why we only have the crock Pitman (who can't run) as our solitary no.9 option, after signing the 36-year-old crock Clarke who had 2 hamstring injuries and a back operation last season. It depends on the individual. The best moment in my career was when my boss took gave me a public dressing down. About my attitude. My commitment. It stung. I hated him for about 2 weeks. Gradually since that day that I was shook to my foundations, I realised I had to make a choice. It was done to help me, not humiliate. The problem is, if you are soft and yielding and nice to some players, they will take you for a mug and continue to act out. The only way you make real lasting changes often is through pain. You have to go through the suffering to learn lessons and become a better person. So, no, publicly calling out a player isn’t necessarily a bad thing. If he didn’t care about said player he would just stick him in the reserves and transfer list him. Like or loathe, and I know you loathe, JB knows what it takes to be a top performer in the game. He is red pilling some truth to a young player who is in danger of wasting a talent. Where this wouldn’t be appropriate is someone like Collins - who may not have the talent of Thomas but is clearly a very committed professional who is working his socks off. Collins missed more chances than Thomas but he hasn’t called him out? Why? I would guess Collins IS putting in what it takes to be a success. It’s all down to what that individual needs.

Not sure Barton can make Thomas score when he's clean though with just the goalie to beat? Thomas basically has cost us 2 pts tonight and now made Saturday's game that bit tougher. And Nicholson on Sat with that miss, just as easy, gets an easy ride? but has scored twice in two matches?

Shape of that back four for their equaliser looks like an absolute mess to me. Surely as soon as their defender gets his head up to launch a long ball up to Elliot, Grant (blue) and Anderton (orange) should be falling in next to our CBs to create a flat back four to deal with any flick-ons to Salford’s runners out wide? Whether Elliot flicked it left or right we were in big trouble because Grant and Anderton were completely out of the game.

Not wishing to be pedantic but were we not reduced to 9 men in the Colchester game?. The subs in the 78th, 82nd and 85th changed the momentum and swung the game in favour of Colchester. Any excuse for failing to beat Barrow who played with 10 for 70+ minutes and were given the run around by Villa a few days earlier while we had a free week to prepare?

now the dust has settled...
We were brilliant until the first sending off. Dominated and restricted them to very few chances until the 2nd and had enough chances to win 5 games. Our midfield looked unplayable at times.... BUT
We know the weaknesses. Not enough in defence, no cover for Alfie (or God forbid Taylor), no RWB and 2 or 3 that have a mistake in them most games. So very few clean sheets will be kept. We have no striker that can score 20 and stay fit.
Not blaming anyone for last night (least of all Luke Thomas), but the weaknesses in the squad are down to recruitment in the summer. Whereas JB has 80% of the squad pretty much there, we have 2 or 3 gaping holes. If we fix them, we will be one of the best teams in this division. It will probably be too late by Jan for automatic, but we should still be in with a shout of play offs.
If we dont fixt them....

Just stuck a tenner on at 3/1 for the win UTG I’ve just done that , 3 - 1 £10 @ 33 - 1 👍🍺 I was wavering on cashing out which I normally would have done with 10 to go but I stuck with it as you seemed to have the game under control but you cant take anything for granted in football. That was a real kick in the teeth for you at the end but you are definitely in the mix for promotion now. 4 points thrown away this week would have made so much difference but theres a long way to go and you are going in the right direction. Tough game Saturday hope you come away with more than a vegetarian sausage roll UTG

Will be interesting to see how JB sets us up Saturday as I’m sure he’d like to play a back three, but struggling for numbers at the back now with Kilgour & Hughes out. Could see him potentially playing Grant or Martinez as the right CB next to Taylor and Harries.
