Nick on what is happening at the Mem I would like to thank you all for your patience as we continue to work towards restructuring the club, and getting everything ready for next season. I hope you can appreciate that it is not a straightforward process, and we all strive to do the best we can for this football club. We are working closely with Darrell Clarke and we have drawn up a recruitment budget for next year, which should be very competitive for the Conference. Darrell knows exactly the sort of players he wants to bring in to the club, and we hope to announce the first new signing before the end of the week. We are also hopeful that we will be able to add another name to that before the end of next week as Darrell begins to shape his squad for next season. We have now established the costs of dropping in to the Conference, and we are producing a budget to move forward next season. Unfortunately this involves changes and redundancies at the club, but some of these were inevitable anyway following the departure of the rugby club from the Memorial Stadium. Our aim is to bounce straight back into the league next season, and we believe we are going to have a budget in place to do that. The money received from the sale of Rickie Lambert to Liverpool has obviously come as a timely boost and will help us to move forward. I know you are all desperate to hear news on the stadium redevelopment project, and I hope to be able to give you a more detailed report in the next couple of weeks. However, for now I can tell you that we are in the process of submitting the pre-commencement planning conditions to South Gloucestershire Council to clear the way for work to begin on the site. We are also working on the outstanding items with UWE. We are currently looking to finalise a couple of dates for the diary, including the Fans Forum and the annual Open Day. These will both be held in July and we will announce firm dates shortly. www.bristolrovers.co.uk/news/article/update-from-the-chairman-june5-1612172.aspx#Pyq6KbQV3iHlJeGP.99

Nothing new to get massively excited about but provides some reassurance nonetheless.

Once again banging on about budgets. This man has still not understood that big budgets do not equate to success and we are not going anywhere with that sort of bollocks.

Nothing new to get massively excited about but provides some reassurance nonetheless. It's a place-holder. In parts it's worded awkwardly, in others it's worded carefully. First of all, why " we are working closely with Darrell Clarke"...it just sounds like 'them and us'. Please stop talking about money...start talking about how we will win 30+ league matches without using any of the terms budget/costs/money and I'll start thinking that next season will be different to any of the last 4/5/6... Unless the build-time has once again shrunken, there are no longer 62 weeks to the start of 2015/16, so at least come out and tell us there will be a minimum of a years delay...it's really not rocket science any more...

For me the shock is that we have officially only now just got our budget in place; confirming beyond doubt that no figures were drawn up prior to D-Day. Shocking. I note that Watola's name has not been listed in the redundancies as yet.... how?!? The man has clearly failed to do the most basic aspect of his job. He should have been one of the first to go IMO.

They won sweet F.A. But for those with less who spend wisely.........
It`ll be fine.....I hope!

The only thing to take from that is the stadium update I guess. At least it seems to suggest the building will start sooner rather than later.
Big budget? Well that worked well in league 2, and even in league 1 we were fed the same crap.
Really can't wait for the signings to begin and we have something more than a beach towel or going to a car boot sale to read about.

I care less about the stadium than the signings this summer...but I can't see how or why the building will start sooner rather than later! Start now (ie tomorrow) and we still (probably) miss the start of the 2015/16 season, so it's reasonable to guess there is at least a season's delay...waffle will not deflect this, and only more money (which we don't have) will change it.

By sooner rather than later I meant that at least they are actually looking at clearing the way for the work to begin rather than our previous update of, err, nothing to report. To be honest after reading some worrying rumours about Sainsbury's that have been doing the rounds lately that comment just reassured us that it is all still going ahead, albeit later than initially planned. I don't care any less about the stadium myself, it is vital to our whole existence to me and NEEDS to happen if we ever hope to be anything more than a poor run down old conference outfit. The players we could attract in the UWE would be far superior to what the Mem attracts.

I agree the UWE is vital to our future....but this season (and probably next) I want players who want to play at the Mem...there's been lots said about our history (especially at Twerton)....it seems to me we need to be planning for at least two more seasons at the Mem, and that means players who might get us to the UWE but also who might never play there...

A much needed update on the stadium but have to agree about needing to sack Watola. Him and Geoff work together in other companies though so cant see it

The Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport visited the Memorial Stadium this afternoon, as part of a tour of Bristol.
Sajid Javid met with Charlotte Leslie and Nick Higgs to discuss the plans for the new UWE Stadium and associated developments.
The Minster expressed a great deal of interest and support for the project and the £200 million of investment it will bring to the local area.
The Chairman spoke with him at length about the cost to the club and its partners of the delays from the JR and English Heritage appeals and the knock on effect this has had on timescales.
Nick outlined to him that although the club still aim to start building this year, it is now unlikely the stadium will be ready for the start of the 2015/16 season.
Everyone at the club would like to thank Mr Javid and Charlotte Leslie for their support on this issue.
We hope to bring you more news on the stadium project in the next few weeks.
"The club still aim to start building this year" this nugget appears 1 day after the pre-commencement planning line that would clear the way for work to begin on site.im beginning to think were all being taken for lady gardens now.

I refuse to believe you have only come to that conclusion now. My guess is you knew it but hoped it was not the case. There is no bottom to the depths this lot will go in misdirecting, misleading ad outright lies.
