With no Rovers game on tonight, I was a little bit bored so I was wondering what’s the best goal you’ve ever seen scored against Rovers? Bit of an unusual question I know.
Kemar Roofe’s goal against us a few years ago for Oxford comes to mind for me but I know I’ve witnessed more I just can’t recall them.

The season we got relegated out of the 3rd division (what is now league 1) in 2001. One of the last home games of the ones we had in hand. Can’t remember if it was port vale or Wycombe (who sent us down) have it in my head one of those teams scored a hell of a goal against us. Don’t remember the player. Will try and find the one I’m thinking of on you tube.

Brian Clough at the Muller Road end Eastville. Not sure if it was Middlesbrough or Sunderland but have never seen a goal scored with such power from such a distance.Small pitch Eastville and I had to leave early to get a number 4 bus to Totterdown to do my paper round.

If it is the same goal that I saw him score, I am pretty sure it was on 12/1/1957. He shot from about 35 yards out from just in front of the South Stand at the goal at the Muller Road end. It had fantastic power and gave Ron Nichols no chance. As I still remember it it must be one of the best I've ever seen. Like you I caught the no 4 but in the opposite direction to Staple Hill. Incidentally over 24000 fans were at the match and no segregation.

That one for me too. One of the few times I’ve seen parts of the Blackthorn End (as was) applaud an opposition goal.

Sadly.
A very rare headed own goal by Lindsay Parsons.
At the AWAY end at Eastville.
One hell of a goal.

I have seen a few and clapped them too but to remember them is too much. I try my best to forget.

Attachment DeletedAlfie Biggs scored a long range effort at the Tote End for PNE against us in the Eastville mud.Thankfully he was only away for one season but Eastville in the late fifties had no tents!!!!!!!! and was arguably better than the Mem is now over 60 years later.

A goal that stuck in my mind was Andy kings incredible strike for Luton Town against us at Eastville in either the late seventies or early eighties. He was shooting towards the Tote end and caught it sweet on the half volley and hit the ball so hard it actually got stuck in the top stanchion.

I suspect it was the fixture in January 1971. Robin Stubbs may have scored for us. A Bruce Rioch rocket could have been the other Villa scorer. One of the many narrow defeats against Villa in that era. The old Andy Blockhead frequently headed the winner for Villa. None of his headers were a patch on the Lindsay Parsons cracker. Lindsay was a magnificent defender who rarely went past the half way line. He never scored for us despite playing over 350 times.

Yep we had some great games and atmospheres against Villa, the quarter final of the league cup at Villa park was the biggest gutter for me. Thought we were going into extra time ,then they scored.

There havent been that many great goals against us, we usually leave them unmarked on the 6 yard box for easy header or tap-in

Playing Fulham in the cup, pretty sure it was Danny Murphy to level the game, was a beauty.
