Why have used car prices gone through the roof? Up 30%. Scarcity or what? New cars are scarce because of lack of computer chips, we buy decent stock and virtually all sold, secondhand prices are rising especially on some models. We don t add much to keep our prices competitive, but we mainly do servicing MOTS and repairs.

We're having the same trouble puckle. Its great for our aftersales side as people are hanging onto their cars and repairing them, so the workshop throughput is up 30%. Downside is very little is being sold off the forecourt. I have a C220CDI estate here which I sold over a year ago for £9995. I bought it back from its owner as he wanted out of it so its a year older with 8k more miles on it and its value is now £13495. I gave himn almost what he paid for it to buy it back so he had a years worth of motoring for free. Madness really.

Usually the margins are £2000 less prep and taxes and were taking about £800 a car.
