As shameless as shameless can be.
Lauding these guys like their heroes for the ‘sacrifice’ yet went as far as handing their families death threats in order to achieve it. Sickening.

More propaganda from Kim Jong-Lansdown, wonder if they’ll change their foundation year for a 4th time?

But no mention of the dozens of tradesmen, contractors and suppliers some of whom lost many thousands and never got paid for their work as the club owners hid behind limited liability and never paid for their mismanagement.

What their website and memorial ignore is the behaviour of City supporters in this affair. Thankfully, the Bristol Live article doesn't gloss over this:
Geoff Merrick “I had death threats. My wife had death threats and my family had death threats. I actually recognised the voices that were on the phone - I knew who these people were. I’d even got tickets for some of them when we played away matches."
Dave Rogers: “I have to say, people managed to get hold of our phone numbers and were telling you, you’ve got to do it. Notes on cars and stuff like that. It wasn’t great."
Gerry Sweeney: “There were a couple of weeks in between and I think Geoff got life threats between him and his family because of the pressure."
Jimmy Mann: “I won’t be at the reunion. I was struggling with it all and it wasn’t doing my health any good so I won’t be there, I’m afraid. I’ll apologise to the supporters and players and that and there are things... well I’m not going to discuss them but I’ve had a bad time, if you know what I mean. It’s difficult.”
Peter Aitken: "...sh*thead b@st2rds, I wish they'd gone bust"*
*I'm sure that's what he said, but the line was a bit muffled.

Geoff Merrick fixed my roof about 5-6 years ago. Lovely bloke. I live near the old Rover's stadium, and he reminisced fondly about playing there.

Chris Garland was my next door neighbour in North Street Nailsea for a number of years after he retired. Had several chats with him about what went on at that time and if I remember correctly he resigned for a year on vastly reduced wages. He was sadly struck down with Parkinsons many years ago . I moved away from Nailsea about fifteen years ago, but I believe he is still battling on having received some special treatment for the condition.

Trevor Tainton went to Hengrove.Didn't know Peter Aitken played for the Dark side. I believe that at the time Peter Aitken was the only player to have captained both Bristol teams.

Takes a special kind of club to 'celebrate' such an event, astonishing how players were 'persuaded' to co-operate and that club were allowed to carry on as if nothing had happened ! a similar scenario today would result in certain expulsion i reckon, you would think the club and supporters would want to forget and feel ashamed not celebrate, as i said it takes a 'special ' kind of club.....

Nice to see an acknowledgement that they are 40 years young though. Won't make 50 mind.

Nice to see an acknowledgement that they are 40 years young though. Won't make 50 mind. They didn't. They became a franchise of the BS group in 2012.

I'd never seen this before. Real insight, if you can stomach it: That was very interesting, thanks for posting the link. I used to work for the Accountant who came up with survival plan, thankfully I'd left the job by that time, imagine if I'd had to type up the plan to save them!

I used to work for the Accountant who came up with survival plan, thankfully I'd left the job by that time, imagine if I'd had to type up the plan to save them! The same Accountant who prevented Bristol Rovers owners Barry Bradshaw and Martin Flook from owning Ashton Gate. The City board had accepted their offer to purchase Ashton Gate but along came the Ashton Gate Eight plan which scuppered the deal. (As told by Barry Bradshaw)
