Just ordered 2 - war in Europe is bad news for all of us, who would had thought 2 years ago a plague would floor the world ?, and here we are on the brink of a world war … pray for peace and hope someone in Russia does the right thing and claim the bounty.

It breaks my heart to see the west basically allow a country to be completely steamrollered and not do anything pro-active in response. I know there are political reasons but politics really sucks. Ukraine is basically far enough away for us to wave from the sidelines. The sooner someone takes out Putin, the better. Ah, the “we must stop the evil dictator line” They used that on us when they wanted us to go in to Iraq. Only applies to mineral and oil rich countries, when the dictator isn’t on our side though. If it’s one of our guys then it’s a-ok. They lied about Iraq, they lie about everything. I am not buying anything they’re selling.

Putin is a power crazed lunatic, putting the whole world at risk, this dictator does have nuclear weapons and he is deluded enough to use them, world war must be avoided, but a bounty bullet in his direction is the answer - hoping someone does the world a favour and remove Putin and then release from prison the truly elected leader by the people of Russia.

There was me thinking this was about NATO membership and the Crimea, but it actually appears we are in the plot of a James Bond movie. Perhaps we can send 007 in while he’s in his swivel chair. Things are much simpler when it’s reduced to a movie plot rather than a difficult geopolitical problem. Hey, it’s what floats the publics boat.

That's a relief then, Ukraine couldn't join Nato anyway due to preexisting territorial issues and Russia has de facto ownership of Crimea anyway. Maybe they can all go home now and we can ignore this little misunderstanding.

Or The kids and families killed in Yemen. Or Gaza. Or Syria. Or Kurdistan. Or Afghanistan. But it's ok, the Ukranians look like us. This from a guy who would love to see Putin shredded, but one who recoils in horror at the stupidity and ignorance of my fellow countrymen. Donated to Ukrainian aid funds today. Hannan is a scumbag, he hates everyone except rich British people

We would have to rely on the Russians for intelligence plus there is the small part where we somehow manage to get anyone into their airspace or Territorials waters. Putin is no mug and, no doubt of this, has been planning this for a very long time. What i really do not understand is why our country is not seizing yachts and assets ..NOW. I and the Mrs were talking with family in Lviv , used to be Lwów when it was Poland and now we are unable to do that. We are hoping it’s something like a mast being taken out rather than thinking the worst.

Putin was a member of the old politburo and has always been consistent in saying that he has never recognised Ukraine as an independent state. I have to say that i am shocked and upset the our country has not been acting anywhere near as quickly as it could have. It is a crazy world that we live in and this could, very easily, turn into a European war and even more than that. The one thing that makes me believe Putin would not resort to Nukes is that he has a child and i don’t believe he would want, what would be a Pyrrhic victory , with a scorched earth policy, to be his legacy to her. Up until yesterday, we were able to talk with extended family there and they were saying losses were much bigger than being reported. I am very much hoping we can re-establish contact.

Edit You are correct and i obviously misread an article i was reading, the article basically says that Putin is building up a new Politburo or Politburo 2.0. My sincere apologies as i read it that he was an old guard Politburo member

Didn't you mean an even bigger one as surely the casualties already suffered mean any "victory" is a Pyrrhic one? You have to fear that he's lost the plot even commencing the invasion if he has he's probably now capable of doing anything. I assume he's personally allowed the bombing to continue even after agreeing the cease fire.

Personally speaking, i do not think he will stop at Ukraine but sincerely hope i am wrong. It really is a time where very strong leadership is needed. We don’t seem to have anyone who fits that description. I admit to crying when i saw the baby die and the parents crumble.

My point was just a naively human one. I want this to stop. My best friend’s wife is Ukrainian. They live in Hamburg and have this week received family members who have travelled from Kyiv. Her brother and father are left behind however. To think what they are going through and may have to face is unimaginable for us. My partner is Romanian and all her family are there. It’s easy to see that if successful in Ukraine, Russia might want to annex Moldova, which would be very problematic given the ties to Romania. It’s a very worrying time to see how this unfolds within the region and extremely stressful for so many people.

Makes me laugh that it’s “keep politics out of football” when the innocent people doing the dying are brown. When it’s Ukraine, suddenly it’s a different story. Wonder why..
