Joeys selection 10
Belshaw 9 - the rock.
Hoole 8 - Struggled initially against a big fella, but got better and better. Taylor 9 - Silly booking early on, man mountain. Connolly 9 - Steady as a rock, right place at the right time for a tap in. Grant 7.5 - Some first touch errors, but did what he had to do.
Coutts 9 - Tremendous ball winning and perfect passing, especially the ball to Elliot for his goal.
H. Anderson 9 - Dancing feet at its best. Finley 10 - the total package. Evans 8.5 - You know he knows what he is doing. E. Anderson 8 - The Geordie Maradona, golden feet. Lucky to have him.
Collins 7.5 - Was always available, never really in the game. Did a job.
Subs: Anderton 7.5 - Shored it up at the back. Loft 8 - Goal Machine. Really good number 9 finish. Whelan 7 - Did what was needed.
Ref 4 - Awful card happy. Port Vale 8 - Top Div 2 team, but not good enough to beat the GAS.

Results in and Paul Coutts was Man of the Match (for the third time in four games) with a score of 9.37. Coutts' score was the fourth highest rating ever in these threads. The only higher scores are Matty Taylor's 9.90 (Wycombe H 15/16), Ellis Harrison's 9.57 (Northampton H 16/17) and Stuart Sinclair's 9.50 (Bolton A 16/17). Anssi Jaakkola, Jonson Clarke-Harris and Luke McCormick have all scored 9.3 in recent seasons. By a rough estimate, Loft's 7.63 is the 9th highest score for a substitute in a league game and the highest since Jordi van Stappershoef (7.9) at home to Shrewsbury last season. It is the highest for an outfield player since Ellis Harrison (also 7.9) at home to Fleetwood in early 2017/18. (There were higher sub scores in both Oxford cup games this season, notably Sion Spence's 8.6) The starting XI average was 7.83, the sixth highest ever in these threads. Four of the top ten scores have been achieved this season. Game | Season | Rating | Bolton (A) | 2016/17 | 8.50 | Northampton (A) | 2017/18 | 8.13 | Stevenage (A) | 2021/22 | 8.11 | Dagenham and Redbridge (H) | 2015/16 | 8.01 | Southend (H) | 2017/18 | 7.87 | Port Vale (A) | 2021/22 | 7.83 | Sutton (H) | 2021/22 | 7.81 | Oxford (A) | 2016/17 | 7.73 | Northampton (A) | 2021/22 | 7.73 | FGR (Play-off) (H) | 2014/15 | 7.73 |
