Sounds like Joey decided not to go for Camps, rather than he picked Stockport over us. Assume an AM will still sign and we currently still have Westbrooke on the books with little chance of getting the bulk of his wage of the bill.

Feeling positive about the season and pleased with our signings so far but the thought of being stuck with Westbrooke for another year is depressing.
I wouldn't even give him a squad number.
If we can't give him away, agree on a payoff and get rid.

He's had enough chances in my opinion. 58 appearances for Rovers and you could count the good ones on one finger. Made no impact on loan at Stevenage either.
A prima-donna who thinks a couple of fancy flicks makes up for doing sod all else in a 90 minute match.

I thought when we got relegated from League one a couple years ago, Westbrooke actually was one of our players who created the most chances for others? Sure I saw a stat on this but might wrong. Our attacking unit at that point wasn't great, so he could possibly be more useful alongside our current team? Not saying he definitely should come back in, but I'd back Joey if he decides to after assessing him in pre season.

Honestly, he's a confusing one. But I'm not sure "prima-donna" is fair. He's not a tough tackling CM that's for sure, and maybe that means he won't fit our style (fair enough), but I have to say I never really saw any evidence of him being a waste of space. It just hasn't worked out here and he just wasn't the right type of player for the relegation battle we found ourselves in (and subsequently a very physical L2 division was never going to be right for him). The cringe-worthy point is, I think he was brought in to be a key figure in a play-off chasing side, not the weak link in a relegation battling side.

You can be a creative player but still give 100% effort and put in a few tackles.
I lost count of the times Westbrooke gave the ball away and made no effort to get it back or watched opposition players go past him like he was stuck in cement.
Evan's is a far better footballer than Westbrooke but also works hard for the team and isn't afraid to make a tackle.
I don't think any team, regardless of the level, can afford to carry a player like Westbrooke. He'll always be a liability in my opinion.

He's not good enough for L2 but might be good enough for L1. I mean we've seen him with our own eyes in L1 and he was sh**. I was very encouraged when we signed him but he's been a massive disappointment. Don't think he can mentally cut it in a JB tram and hopefully will be shipped out ASAP.

I'm pretty sure Westbrooke wouldn't have looked any better if we'd have been in the ground.
Given how woeful he was he's very lucky there were no fans in the stadium.

I do agree with most of this, but Westbrooke did play 33 times in Coventry’s 2019/20 L1 promotion season and their fans seemed pretty gutted when he joined us in the summer of 2020 - so it’s not that he flat out isn’t good enough for L1. I think it’s more a case of him being the type of midfielder that needs to be accommodated in the side by putting certain other types of midfielder around him, and tbf our whole side in 2020/21 was rank awful. I am expecting him to leave this summer, but also wouldn’t be surprised if JB thinks he can get an improved Westbrooke this season with the likes of Coutts, Finley, Rossiter etc. around him. Will be interesting to see what happens.

Is it a case of him looking OK in a good side, just like some players have looked badly for us because the team is playing badly.

He had mixed reviews at best.

Most the positive comments seemed to be from our fans. A lot of their fans said he was lightweight and that they improved without him in the team. There was a reason why they let him go so easily, after winning promotion.

It came as a surprise to Coventry fans at the time, and I think there was recognition that he’d had a good half a season with them and they also saw him as a someone who had a lot of potential. However, they did say he’d been dropped for not doing enough defensive work and that they weren’t sure that he’d make the step up to the championship as well as some of their other midfielders. It’s a shame that it’s turned out the way it has with him, but I wish him well if he does move on this summer.

It's the few negative ones, that stuck in my mind at the time😂.

My guess would be they just weren’t convinced he was up to the Championship (the league they were about to go into), and had they stayed in L1 it would have been harder for us to get him.
