I hope we don’t put too much pressure on Connolly now he’s our player, it’s easy to forget he’s only 20 years old, and this season will be a step up for him.
He deserves all the hype around him for defying his age and being Mr consistent in the second half of last season, but we’ve seen players struggle to handle the expectations levels being through the roof before.
So we’ve got to get behind him if he does make mistakes, and support him on his journey to becoming a better player because he’s still got some years ahead of him to develop further still. I’m buzzing that he’s signed btw.

I like the look of him , think he reads the game exponentially well.

TBF to Joey, he clearly does his homework. He's signed players he's worked with before, who are all hardworking, with plenty of desire and commitment. The others imo he has scouted thoroughly, not just looking at their ability but backgrounds, characters etc to see if they'd be the right fit. Even James Connoly, as they're both from the same area, I am sure Joey has known about him for a while, and kept tabs on his progress. The majority of the signings made by Ben Garner or Tommy Widdrington were the complete opposite, I don't think there was any thought process behind them. So in hindsight, on paper they may have looked good signings, but a lot of recruitment isn't just about ability, you need to do research and analysis on each player. I don't think its a coincidence why the overwhelming majority of Joeys signings were superb. Jurgen Klopp is a master of it too, where all his signings fit in perfectly straight away.

Absolutely It actually seems we are building a team to compete at the top end of L1. Can’t remember the last time that happened Actually I think that was the intention two years ago when everyone on here was optimistic after Westbrooke was our first signing, iirc. This time the signings just seem more substantial but, as ever, we will need to see how they play in League 1. Never any guarantees! But I am equally optimistic, but then I usually am.👍 UTG!

I’m sure he will do well but at 20 he’s still learning and will have poorer games when we will need to cut him a bit of slack. UTG!

Why Beefy btw? James isn't especially large, quite lean in fact. The other well known Beefy, Ian Botham, was quite chunky for a sportsman, particularly towards the end of his career. Does James enjoy having 'beef' with the opposition?

Beefy & Biscuit at the back.

Absolutely delighted he's back, we appear to have recruited very well so far with the promise of more to come. As others have said we'll have to be mindful of his age, he's got massive potential but young players are likely to make mistakes. Having said that he appears very level headed, if he makes a mistake or two I don't think it will faze him at all. Welcome back James UTG

He was out of contract but Cardiff triggered their option of another year. Hence why we have had to pay a fee. Wasn't it more of a case he would have been out of contract if Cardiff hadn't taken the option as at no point was he actually out of contract. We seem to have gone a bit crazy paying fees/offering decent contracts, hopefully Hoole isn't going to be sold to pay for it. Fingers crossed Taylor is returning to partner Beefy. I believe its the case the option of triggering a new contract can work in favour of the player or as in the case here, of the club. As regards the club going crazy, they obviously feel of what they have seen the lad is worth it. From what I have seen in this case, I tend to agree with them, don't you?

I have to completely agree with you on this Mario. I can honestly say that I was really excited about those signings and was convinced we'd be competing at the top end of league one rather than relegation.

I agree I think this was the ethos and identity Wael wanted BG to achieve but he didn’t have the influence or knowledge to achieve it. Joey on the other hand does have that ‘respect’ within football circles to pull it off and so far seems to be producing good young players with selling potential alongside class experienced players to aid their learning process and steady the ship. HMS Wael is the new flagship everyone seems to want to be aboard. Long may it continue

Wael is certainly putting his hand in his pocket. Thrilled to have Connolly back. He was every bit as good as Taylor.

HMS Wael is the new flagship everyone seems to want to be aboard. Long may it continue I think to be fair to BG he was signing ex- academy players who had been released from their clubs and were free. JB is signing players who are still with their clubs and obviously considered good enough to be retained and we are paying fees for them -( well Wael is anyway) . There is no doubt that JB's relationships have helped - he had never even seen Billy play before he signed him - and he knows whom he can trust where BG seemed to be relying on TW .

It seems the fee is UpTo £150k and not upfront but based on appearances and promotion.
This is an incredible bit of business.

Discussing this with my good lady this morning, she is from out of town and not really into football, although im slowly changing this.
She asked a few things this morning about JB who she views as intelligent but complex, I agreed and acknowledged her interest.
Then she said 'Bristol' are doing well aren't they........
An instant, frosty silence fell in the room, bit of a pause, I said can you repeat that please?
Being the smart cookie she is, quickly replacing Bristol with Rovers, while also asking if I wanted another coffee swiftly got her off the hook with a friendly verbal warning given.
Anyway great to have Beefy in the building permanently and hoping to see a Steve Yates mark 2 develop, UTG.
