I think we could get him in on a loan and if we do then we’ll have one of the best back fives including Belly in league 1. Seriously? We conceded goals in league 2 with these players mind. Yes of course we did concede goals with those players but every team concedes goals. We conceded 15 goals in our last 25 league games which was around the time that the squad clicked. The defence was young so those players will almost certainly improve further too. I think our back five from last season is a top 6 back 5 in league 1. It’s hypothetical of course because we have a new left wing back and we haven’t signed Conor ,,,, yet.

He looked a little ropey at the start of his time with us but got better and better every time I saw him. Delighted we’ve signed him as he has the potential to get even better.

Great to have Connolly back.
Understandably a little nervy in his first couple of games. They were, after all, his first games as a professional.
However, he soon settled in and played a massive part in our promotion.

I don't see how it's possible to come to that conclusion but you're entitled of course. You must have a decent knowledge of all the league 1 team squads. I admit that I don't. Looking forward to see how we do, if the optimism on this thread is a gauge, we should do well. I reckon we're in for a rude awakening at the step up..

TBF to Joey, he clearly does his homework. He's signed players he's worked with before, who are all hardworking, with plenty of desire and commitment. The others imo he has scouted thoroughly, not just looking at their ability but backgrounds, characters etc to see if they'd be the right fit. Even James Connoly, as they're both from the same area, I am sure Joey has known about him for a while, and kept tabs on his progress. The majority of the signings made by Ben Garner or Tommy Widdrington were the complete opposite, I don't think there was any thought process behind them. So in hindsight, on paper they may have looked good signings, but a lot of recruitment isn't just about ability, you need to do research and analysis on each player. I don't think its a coincidence why the overwhelming majority of Joeys signings were superb. Jurgen Klopp is a master of it too, where all his signings fit in perfectly straight away. The name that everybody forgets is Eddie Jennings. The man who keeps in the background, but is Joeys righthand man when it comes to recruitment. He officially joined the club this February but was involved several months before and he is the man who replaced Widdrington and is at the forefront of player recruitment. There was an article in the post not long after the Scunthorpe game that explained everything about him and how modest he is, stays in the background and does not seek publicity.
