Can’t complain about the result, but the manor of the loss hurts. The worry is Barnsley who steamrollered us Tuesday were beaten 0-3 today as did Forest green who beat us at home. The teams we have beaten are both still struggling so far. We desperately need new faces soon. This league seems very topsy turvey. It was only the penalty decisions that put this game out of our hands. Up until then the game could have gone either way. Would have been a very different result if the penalty decisions were flipped.

I think this team would stay up, as-is.
We definitely need new faces to challenge.

Whilst we are all enraged at the ref, Portsmouth have been the better team today, by quite some difference. They dominated the first half and should have been more than one goal up. This is the sort of ground we never win at. We will almost certainly loose at the other ex premier league team grounds because we always do! Hopefully we can get back to winning ways next weekend. It does not matter how many shots or corners or how much pressure pompey put us under.. the facts are two key decisions the ref got wrong and we ended losing the game because of it.

Portsmouth were the better team, no question about that, but did they deserve the win? No.
Some poor finishing or last-ditch defending kept us in the game. The ref then ignores a clear foul on Collins on the halfway line and allows Portsmouth to come forward and win a penalty. Not clear cut but probably the right decision. However, had he given the foul on Collins it would never have happened.
Then, Collins is clearly brought down in the box and the ref waves it away. If we get the penalty and make it 2-2 their third goal never happens.
You have to stick the ball in the net to win a game of football and without 2 shocking decisions from the ref, we'd have got at least a point today.
Don't get me wrong, as I said at the start, Portsmouth look a good side and were far better than us but we would have got something out of the game if it weren't for the referee.

We weren’t at it today, nowhere near what we’re capable of but that referee performance today and the levels of inconsistency was bordering on criminal.
Regardless of their (debatable) pen award and then one not given to Collins, I’m certain their lad jumped in on Whelan, broke his own ankle & then GW gets booked for it🤦🏻
I’m normally calm and collected at football 100% but that ran me close today. Collins pen not even close, stonewall beyond stonewall.

Ref probably had it in the back of his mind that he perhaps he should have sent Whelan off when he made the penalty decisions, which is unprofessional and sh** but then the referees in the lower leagues are unprofessional and sh**. Wasn’t expecting anything from today we go on to a winnable game v shrews. UTG

Amazing I've paid to watch a professional game of football with 22 players + subs and the star of the show is a inept amateur 🤣

Game of opinions - funny how we see things differently. I thought theirs was a penalty and ours wasn't. No complaints about the result, Pompey the better team over the 90+ mins and deserved the win.

Can anybody understand why JB subbed off the impressive Gibson for Kilgour, has that decision probably cost us the match as much as the dodgy ref, given Kilgour gave away the penalty, which on the replays does look a clear penalty. Although they did look a clear foul on Collins leading up to the attack which led to the penalty! What about our clear clear clear penalty Topper, or can’t you see that with your Pompey tinted glasses on? 🛎end Strange comments given that I referred to the ref being dodgy and that Collins was fouled leading up to their pen. The Collins pen was so clear cut it's seems pointless commenting on it, hopefully the FA/EFL now ban him for his next match.

Based on the balance of play we loose that game nine times out of ten without the dodgy decisions. Today should have been the one game out of those ten where we had a bit of luck and came away with a point and the referee cost us that point!

Can't read to much into results after 5 games of the season.
Imo league tables don't usually take shape until at least Oct/Nov, sometimes even later.
I think Harrogate were top of League 2 last year at November, while we were about 17th.
Forest were bottom of The Championship in October, got promoted.
6 points from our 1st 5 games isn't too bad, with new players to come in the next 10 days.
I'm confident Joey can pluck some more gems for us

Why wouldn't you give ours given that the defender, who should never have really attempted the challenge, clearly stood on Collins foot? On theirs Kilgour completely lost Piggot and could well have fouled him. Collins was lining up to shoot, having just taken an harder chance, so I can't see him deciding to dive to just win a penalty. What's odd is that a few mins before the ref gave Collins a foul in our area when he just seemed to fall down!

A lot will now depend on who we can sign and if we can improve our chances for this season.

Check your account settings Pirate, it looks like your account has been hacked by a one eyed Pompey fan (in other words, todays ref)

I don't think he got Pompey's wrong having watched it again but having got that one right it's a mystery why he then didn't give Collins', perhaps the Whelan decision did cloud his judgement but that's hardly an excuse.

Although they did look a clear foul on Collins leading up to the attack which led to the penalty! Gibson had been booked and was being protected for our next game. He was booked for dissent and there were no obvious signs of him being booked again, surely we needed to secure the points in the game being played before worrying about the next game?

Maybe on a booking but not this. It just showed some should never be in charge at levels above them

JBs 6/7 is now already down to 5 …. According to his post match interview on Radio Bristol…
Seriously starting to lose confidence in who / what is coming through the door… will only take one good one though and I will be back on Cloud Nine.

We were very poor first half but improved in the second half. However, we nearly committed hari-kari so many times at the back.
As for the ref, no comment. Others have covered the homer cheating bastard very well.
