Finley 5 tried to make things happen but couldn’t
Clarke 5 looked threatening occasionally in the first half going forward

Belshaw poor distribution and almost caught out when charging out of goal, sweeper keeper behind this defence is a challenge 5
Kilgour we know what he offers, non nonsense defending and a clanger waiting to happen. Simple passes are made to look difficult 4
Thomas is this the same player we saw score on his debut? Against a better attack would have been found even more wanting.3
Gordon lets play him at fullback and see what he can do, not his position 5
Anderson not the player we loved last year 5
McCormick oh dear a boy lost at present 4
Coutts looked slow, caught in possession, and passing poor (although corners were far better then evans poor attempts) 4
Finley our best player in midfield by a country mile, but little competition. 6
Clarke ok he was not our worse player but what did he actually do? 5
Collins perhaps time to play him as a lone striker again. He is capable and will be sold for a club record if he continues in his current form. 8
Loft put himself about and one shot that might have snuck in, much better in the air, needed to attack the front post when Clark put in a decent cross. Jury out if he can keep improving and consistently perform at this level 6
Subs: Evans didn't change the game for the better 5
Rossiter not a massive impact but performed better then Coutts 5
Marquis just has happened yet. Not sure why the chances don't fall his way, but they don't 5
Jasper some glimpses of quality 6

Accrington well organised, looked like a team established in this division, a couple of flare players but otherwise a very workmanlike team, but good enough to beat us 6

Belshaw - His distribution is getting worse. No chance with the goal. 5
Kilgour - Defended well. A fantastic block in the first half that stopped an almost certain goal. Some good passes and a couple of overhit passes. Passing out from defence with our static midfield is nigh on impossible. 7
Thomas - Mixed performance. Some good defending especially the block that went over the bar stopping another certain goal. Some misplaced passes but again who do you pass to with our ineffective and static midfield. 6
Gordon - Ok going forward but struggles defensively. Definitely should not be playing in a back three. 5
Anderson - We know from last season that he is a good winger but a disaster at wing back. Ineffective. 4
McCormick - Poor, ineffective as someone else said he looked lost. 3
Coutts - Didn't make himself available to receive passes from defence. Numerous poor passes, slow, ineffective. 3
Finley - At times looked really good running with the ball but ruined it by time and again hitting his final pass high down the middle straight to their goalkeeper. If only he tried simple on the deck passes. 5
Clarke - He at least got up and down the line and put in a couple of very good low crosses. Got caught out for their goal. 5
Collins - A good run and shot just before halftime. Scuffed several good opportunities. Needs to look up on occasion when a measured pass would be better than running headlong into a defender falling over onto his bottom and
wanting a foul. Caused some problems to their defence. 6
Loft - Got his head to a few balls in the first half. Tried hard. Incapable of holding the ball up. Couple of good moments but never looked like scoring, 5
Subs: Evans - Terrible corners and free kicks. Linked well with Jasper and caused a few problems. Is getting frustrated hence the booking. 5
Rossiter - A bit better than Coutts but that doesn't say much. 5
Marquis - Poor, but is it him or the players around him? 4
Jasper - Bright spark, caused problems for them down the right. Several excellent crosses. 7
Joey Barton - We got relegated and struggled up to December last year playing a back three and having wingbacks that didn't defend. By default last December we changed to a back four and our performances greatly improved. At the time Joey said that he was a young, inexperienced manager still learning. He must not keep making the same mistakes. Play a back four if we can find two fullbacks who can defend. There are very few players, if any, in divisions 1 & 2 with the speed and attacking/defending capabilities to play the role of wingback. 1

Belshaw 6 off game and poor distribution.
Kilgour 4 can't defend can't pass, what do you do?
Thomas 5 one block at end but otherwise liability.
Gordon 5 part of struggling defence that forgot to mark the goalscorer at a set piece.
Anderson 5 he's not a rwb.
McCormick 5 not his best day out.
Coutts 5 gave ball away that led to the goalscoring corner.
Finley 6.5 tried to play some great through balls and worked hard.
Clarke 6 deserves a public apology if sacked and continues to get picked.
Collins 7.5 m o m always went looking for the ball, nice shot that hit the point.
Loft 7 worked hard and actually won a free kick !?
Subs: Evans 4 unremarkable.
Rossiter 4 better in Rising Damp.
Marquis 3 de Sade.
Jasper 7.5 looking lively, especially switching sides.
Ref 6 fussy.
Accrington 5.5 bang average for this division, and again manages to carve out a positive result. They're our nemesis!
A simple school ground move was enough to sink us, and they broke through a few more times with simple pace and movement. We really had no other clear cut chance apart from Aaza hitting post/bar but the team as a whole looked like strangers and performance had plenty of effort, but lacked just as much quality.

Belshaw 7 a couple of scary moment but did the other things ok considering the car crash playing out in front of him. Kilgour 6.5 defended resolutely, saved a certain goal. Thomas 6 good in the air ,caught out a few times but always confident. Gordon 6 decent on the ball but defending is dodgy Anderson 5 looked lost,he should be played as a winger or not at all. McCormick 5 he doesnt seem to be improving much which is worrying. Coutts 5 he takes a few months to get up to speed, wasteful. Finley 7 bags of energy and enthusiasm,the remainder of the team take note ! Clarke 6 a few decent runs but faded badly. Collins 7.5 M.o.M unlucky not to score,kept going and was our only real hope. Loft 6 not as effective as in recent games Subs: Evans 5.5 we were a bit better with his arrival but he's nowhere near last seasons form. Rossiter 5.5 jury very much still out. Marquis 5 what you see is what you get,and its not good enough. Jasper 7 brightened up the game, we could do no worse than giving him a run of games. Ref 5 he matched the game, distinctly forgettable. Accrington 6 the better of two poor teams. |
