The worry is how many times is Wael going to pay £xmillion.
If we had one of the most successful seasons ever and still made massive losses what does that say?
I don't have access to the figures but since Wael took over how much as he written of? It can't go forever.
If Tom saves "pence" on outsourcing stewards, catering staff etc, but Joey keeps increasing the backroom staff, buys more expensive waged players, on bigger transfer and agent fees, the financial side cannot be getting any better.
I would have hoped the sales team would have come up with some great sponsorship following last season, but all I can see is a refurb for an area we don't use enough and a scratch my back, deal with seat unique.
Going back to the op topic if some money can be made through support groups events at the Mem, why are the club not even trying to help them?
I would have thought we would have heard some plan re the World cup and Xmas meals by now. Pre cost of living times, I would guess that Christmas parties see large bar profits, so I am not sure even Rovers could run Xmas parties at a loss.
I am sure many people would be interested in watching the England games alongside Joey and the players to get their take. Don't sales people call it USP - unique selling point?
It worries me that our sales team are interested in promo vids, award ceremonies, hoi polloi parties, STs, shirts and merch but not much else, but social events could help raise money and the feel good factor.

Bigger ain't better. Otherwise, none of us would be here. It's about what's appropriate collectiveness and supportive in a time of need..... perhaps attacking the poster not the post, you choose to ignore that? Not sure how you can call a decision "shameful" when nobody on here seems to have a clue why it was made? But what's these time of need you talk about I'd imagine Rovers as a club are in the best financial position they've been for years it's not like they are desperate for every pound they can get. Hey, we're all different, and I think theres potentially great strength in that. We can disagree. But, through some of the harshest times (and we've seen worse before), the notion of a Gas family where we draw on each others' strengths, no matter what indifference, have become important. Some of the past players may have played through those times. Some of us may have watched them, or even gotten their signature for kids for future generations, the relationship at some points have been symbiotic. Almost like family. To some. Not all. Imagine welcoming back some of your family you might have struggled with in harder times back to your home, and inviting them for a drink? .....then presenting them with a bill!? Like I said, we're all different fair enough, I'm aware there's a cost to be covered, but if the club can't distinguish between the a cost and how much something is valued (that's the shameful bit for me, it appears the club haven't done their best to accommodate), don't be surprised if you and me will be costed out too at some point. It ain't good enough for me. Is it for you?

Looking at it another way why should fans subsidise footballers having a free meal and drinks at our expense when most present day footballers have earned vastly more wages p.a. than most of us will ever earn?

Why do you worry about how long Wael is prepared to write off £m's, as long as the club debts don't grow the only one suffering the loss is Wael, if he ever sells up it will be the new owners worry how they are going to deal with the losses, hopefully, by then we'll be in a new ground/be more self sufficient.

The Gas family, Topper.... To some it exists. To some it doesn't. Comparisons are relative (pardon the pun!) but agree: the costs of attending should be simple for a bonafide organisation connected with the club. I'm not sure what someone personally earns has to do with anything, tbh it's none of my business. And I'll wager (pardon the pun!) it's none of yours too.. I'm all punned out!

Like I said, cost and value of things. There is a difference.

I'm sure if the had a open forum evening with Joey Barton and charged £2 with the monies going to Nick Anderton, it would be very popular. There are lots of opportunities and I suspect volunteers to organize things, so why do the club have to have such prohibitive room hire costs. The bar takings would cover the staffing, heating, lighting, cleaning costs etc, plus the support organisations make a profit from the event which is given to the club anyway. Is it so professional to put off people from trying to be empowered to make some money for the club? Let's face it the club is losing big money and not helping itself (lack of programmes with almost guaranteed sales is just one example). If the SC, YP, Helpline, Former Players Association, Tote End Boys and Presidents Club can all make a profit from events why doesn't the club help them to help themselves? Tom isnt a mug and will look at everything at a cost perspective and perhaps, just perhaps, it isnt going to make the club any money? When was the latest presumed/expected P&L calculated for any of the above events? Surely some assumed idea could be given on past events, even if you add the cost of the room hire afterwards. Tom isnt deliberately unkind either, so as much as you think he or the club might be difficult, there is probably a very good reason for not being as concillitory as you want him to be. I don't think Tom is a mug, but when I was SC social chair, events got evaluated to see if there would be a profit (or like some posters have mentioned, if there was a tangible benefit we would go ahead, even at a loss). If John M or Jim didn't think it was feasible, it wouldn't even get proposed to Ian Holtby or Steve Burns. Sometimes they had to run the suggestion by Geoff, Ron or Nick etc, so there was a process in place. The Board at that time actively promoted the support groups feeling empowered and it was a "were all in it together" spirit and wanted (and needed) events at the Mem. I would guess in over 60 events that I was involved in, that were meant to be profitable, only 3 made a loss. One of those was when we were asked to pay for players food at a player of the year at the last minute (Thanks Mr McGhee!), one was when torrential rain meant that half the people who promised to turn up, didn't show and the costs had already been paid out, the other was a race night where in all honesty I didn't have a clue what I was doing - but then even then the losses were recouped over the Clubhouse bar and several fans donated their winnings back, so the SC actually broke even. Just this season a bloke stopped me to ask if I was doing another one, as he hadn't laughed so much in ages when the outsider donkey stormed home at 40-1. Apparently the look on my face was something else! Admittedly some events only made a very small amount, but if the bar made a profit as well (taking into account stock, staff costs and utilities etc), it went ahead. That doesn't seem the case now as any events have to be absolute nailed on to make a good profit, or else it's not worth getting out of bed for, as they say. The 50th anniversary of the 4-0 v the Busby Babes was not run for profit as the target audience were mostly OAPs so it was free entry, but I bet the bar and merchandise takings were great and for many it was the last chance to see and speak to Alfie Biggs. You can't put a price on people recalling those special memories. I ran the kids tombola for over 15 years, taking over from Ralph Ellis who made a considerable loss. More often than not the profit was less than £20 for several hours work. The Rovers stock was purchased at the standard shop price, so the club did not lose out and I relied on donations, self funding and reps items. But the look on the kids faces when they won a brand new home or away shirt for £2.....or the times the players helped to hand over the other prizes, even if it was a second hand donation, or help spin the tombola drum..... well sometimes it is more than just about profits. Sometimes being a Rovers fan is more than just the 90 minutes. (98 if we are playing Shrewsbury!) Ps I contacted DB about some potential sponsorship opportunity with a well know cereal manufacturer for a Wheetabix Trophy.

Not sure if it’s been cleared up since I last asked the question but has anyone yet established why the BRFPA event is not being held at the Mem? If it’s for reasons of venue size then I don’t see anything ‘shameful’ on the clubs behalf. They’ve been happy to host smaller past events. Just seems like yet another stick to beat the club with at the moment

It's hard to work anything out from the this tweet about the event but it looks to me that it's still free for the 32 invited(?) ex players and £50 per person/£380 per table of 8 for fans. /photo/1
If that's the case I'm not sure what the issue is if ex players are not being charged as if all the tables sell out then surely selling upwards of 300 tickets at GCCC makes more sense than 50 or so tickets at the Mem?

If the "cost" of providing the food and the staff etc is exactly the same at Glos as it is at the Mem, so for ease of argument the profit is say an assummed £15 per head, an extra 100 people will mean an extra income of £1,500 in simple terms.
You then have to assume Glos charge £150 booking fee, it means you have to weigh up the benefits of £1,350 up front, or the loss of bar takings.
Obviously if the profit is £10 per head or less on the meal costs alone, it makes it less favourable to switch. I would have thought the bar profit at the Mem for an attendance of 200 or so would be around £850. Ie 3 pints each is not unreasonable, with more than a £1 profit per pint.

You can only hope somebody has done the maths and worked out that using GCCC will be more profitable, there's also the "hidden" long profit gains of having 200+ fans attend v just 50+ The Mem.

Glad they are finally listening.
A kick up the backside from TG for someone no doubt.
The tails shouldn't have to wag the dog though.
Hopefully Nicks bucket collection by the SC goes well and it might also help spring others FC employees into action.
