All this "possession" football has become so tedious and boring to watch. Oh, for the days when many teams used effective wingers which usually was a joy to watch. I personally liked the "up and at them" style of play. Today players just want to try and tap the ball into nets. To me, the game has become mainly pedestrianized! Also, too many players constantly dive looking for penalty decisions.

Each to their own . I’m enjoying our style of football immensely, second half of last season was superb. Obvs it’s a level up this yr so it’s not so easy to batter teams but we’re still a good side to watch . If the other side hasn’t got the ball they can’t score 😉

So Joey ball or Coughlan ball?
Both equal winning football matches, I know which I prefer & it ain’t the bottlers kick and rush brand.

As things stand I still haven't a clue who'll make the final or who'll then go on to win it from the four semi finalists. The only thing killing football at our level is the anti football sides, which DC's sides now seem to have joined.

For me, it’s just finding a way of cutting out the diving and time wasting. It’s got ridiculous and so often ruins a good game of football. The football to me seems just as exciting to me as it always did, and different styles are welcome. I enjoyed watching Vaughan Jones knocking a long ball for Devon White to flick on and then Mehew or Penrice getting on the end of it, just as I enjoy watching Anthony Evans dissect an opposition defence with a perfect through ball.

The gung ho two wingers style of old was certainly exciting to watch but it didn't win tournaments or promotions, or at least wouldn't now, and it's all about winning. It always was, of course, but the game evolves. Everyone wants to play like Barcelona or Spain now, which is why Barcelona and Spain are not the forces they used to be.
Totally agree about the diving and professional fouls though. It's dishonest, tedious to watch and should be excised from the game.

Coupled with long bans and it would soon stop

Re diving at VR level surely the punishment should be a red rather than a yellow card? Although I can't recall there's been a lot of diving in the WC? For time wasting just have the ref's watch connected to a stadium clock and then everybody can see when he's stopped his watch? At present fans have no idea if the refs going to add 5 mins or 10 mins added time.

Personally, I don’t think I’ve ever enjoyed football more, Joseph has us playing possibly the best football I’ve ever witnessed watching Rovers, maybe Ollies team comes close, the World Cup is definitely one of the best with some scintillating football, plus to be honest it’s a joy to watch MOTD these days with Peps superb City and Klopps Liverpool, I don’t think we’ve ever had it so good 👍🏾

When it's played with tempo and good movement it is very enjoyable. When it's slow and the defenders and keeper pass to each other for five minutes it is tedious to watch for me. I'd rather watch Bodin or Anderson taking people on or cutting inside and shooting than playing it backwards just to keep the ball. But there always was and always will be poor games and good games to watch.

If anyone reads the excellent When Saturday Comes, the current edition (dated Jan 23) contains an interesting article by some thoroughly disillusioned fan of a Div 2 team. The sub headline is “Battles of attrition and tedious time wasting tactics are increasingly a turn off for fans”. And here’s another one “the premise is the fewer the number of minutes of open play the less chance for the opposition to score a goal “.
I know what the chap is on about. I found the second half at Bolton almost unwatchable given our time wasting, justifiable or understandable or whatever justification we want to use. But let’s hope that was a one off, until we’re one up in the play off final! It’s been fun under Joey, we are lucky to have him.
A game clock has to be the answer I think.

A game clock isn’t such a bad idea but judging by some of the World Cup matches we might not be leaving the Mem til gone 5.30 pm on a sat !

I must say watching the woman's football they seem to play a more honest game with less obvious cheating.

Not a touch on Barton’s brand of footie mind😄not even in the same atmosphere let alone league!

Bartonball = fantastic
Coughlanball = effective
Garnerball = useless
I’d rather see them in that order. Passing around at the back is not entertaining. Game management is not entertaining. Time wasting and cheating is infuriating.
Progressive attacking football, yes please.

Had a walk down memory lan , on YouTube and watched and listened to much, going back to the World Cup and league games from the 70’s on and the game seemed much faster and much more attacking, even though i had seen a couple of the game live, i had never seen the videos and i have to say i was fixed to the screen for over 3 hours. Of course it would be great to see that again but teams would get high score defeats, on the counter attack by being so open. It really was entertainment when you went to game back then
