I hope we are not going to do a John Ward and leave it to the last minute before we sign someone,We have a week and a Half for someone to settle in and get to know the other players,.. if we have players in mind.?...and not get the leftovers which might not be good enough....I trust DC but hope he doesn't leave it too late.

I just trust DC and leave it at that. It's a much better feeling than I had under Wars after he signed players such as Bond as a winger.
He will want to get them early, but won't rush if it means the wrong type of player. Much like the summer, and that's worked perfectly well.

There's never a rush to get it wrong.
I would rather wait than regret getting the wrong one.

Where do the rest of you feel we need to strengthen? A pacey winger would be nice, but Monkey is doing a fine job on the left in my opinion, with some of his link up play with Brown looking promising. Gosling is doing well too. I still think Balanta will be an important player for us in the coming months, if he stays fit. Taylor clearly has a bit of class about him and warrants a place in my, and more important DC's opinion. Blissett gives us a different option too, and a handful of goals in a short space of time is a good return. We have Goldberg and Ellis, both of which possess good pace, so personally I am quite content in that department at the moment. Having said all that, strengthening when you are winning games is a catalyst to success.

Know what you mean as always feels like it smacks of desperation though j am aware negotiations can take a while with a player / club / agent. However lambert was a last second purchase and we all know what happened there !!

Don't think a RB is a big concern, Lockyer is steady enough despite a few AWOL passes, maybe if he got injured it might be necessary.

If there is an issue with Trotman then Lockyer becomes cover for CB and both full backs. Leaves us a bit light imo. I like TL, but I feel we will need 1 more defender to see us out.

Having said all that, strengthening when you are winning games is a catalyst to success. The dilemma is that we are now performing pretty well as a side and some of the individuals that drew criticism earlier in the season, seem to have played really well recently. The recent DC/MS interviews seemed to suggest that we are looking for 2 or maybe 3 new players that would fit into the staring line-up, but it would seem to me that we will have to pay much more to get this type of player. To attempt to be systematic, here are my thoughts: GK - Mildenhall returning to fitness and Puddy holding the shirt at present, but able cover - No change requiredRB - Whilst not spectacular going forward, Lockyer is a solid defensive performer and is flexible to cover a range of other positions if needed. Leadbitter provides a different option, particularly going forward - No change requiredCBs - Parkes is nailed on at the moment and McCrystal seems to be more reliable now than last season. Trottman was a standout performer prior to his first injury, but should return. With cover from Lockyer, there is plenty of competition and cover - No change required. LB - When fit Lee Brown must be one of the first names on the teamsheet, but is cover from Lockyer adequate - Suggest a Left footed LB required as coverRM - Gosling has stepped up a level in the last month and looks to have grown in confidence. Like others, I prefer Sinclair in the middle and although Balanta and Monkhouse can/have played on the right, I think we could strengthen here - Suggest we try to get LDV on loan until the end of the season or someone of similar pedigree
CM - Mansell and Sinclair are my preferred starting two, with Ollie Clarke as standby. Despite some good goals, I worry about Clarke as he sometimes gets lost against better opposition. Whilst pretty solid, we lack some creativity, unless you include Balanta playing in an advanced CM role - Suggest we may need to add a creator in CM
LM - Despite others' concerns, I think Monkhouse is a real asset in this position, both creatively and especially with his heading ability. Balanta provides another option here (although I can't remember him playing in this role for Rovers) - No change required
Strikers - We look more potent against the weaker teams, but still seem to be missing too many chances. Taylor & Blissett work refreshingly hard and will continue to get goals, but will they get enough? Harrison provides a different type of threat, but is likely to be mostly used from the bench. I don't think Goldberg is the answer, but good as cover - Suggest we need a 20+ goal a season striker (then who doesn't?) but how much are we willing to pay?

Can we do loans until the end of May rather than the end of the season, just in case? Obviously would love to grab that number 1 slot, but if we just miss out, I'd rather have players like LDV (if we get him) playing on the wing and boosting our chances of winning the final at Wembley.
Or are they strict clauses to only have players for a couple of months/end of the season only?

Or are they strict clauses to only have players for a couple of months/end of the season only? I asked this the other day. The response was the conference was done and dusted before the end of the league season so it didn't matter. I'm not 100% sure though
