Well I wasn't there today but I think John deserves a huge amount of praise for 4 goals in the last 2 games. Looking at the highlights there is a noticeable difference in his body language and demeanor. He looks like a confident striker, clinical and with belief. If he keeps this up we will really be in with a good shout of the play-offs.

I have to admit ive been hugely critical of him as his performances have been well below what he ia capable of. The last 2 games however he has looked a completely different player so fair play to him and the backroom staff. Still needs to put these types of performances in consistently but he is certainly doing everything he needs to.

Must have one of the best front lines in this division.

Love his comment about knowing the defender he knicked the ball off was his friend and he knows he is slow on the ball! Experience and youth in this front line!

It's similar to Aaron Collins last season which Joey has alluded to in recent interviews.
Collins didn't score his 1st league goal until January last season, now look how good he is.
Sometimes players need time to settle at new clubs, there could be a number of reasons why.
Here's hoping Marquis has a similar impact to Aaron Collins now it looks like he's got his confidence and scoring touch back.

Looked today like the player we hoped we had bought. Turned a loss into a win. Fantastic.

John Marquis has arrived! We have finally appreciated how to link with and feed him.
The ideal position for winning teams is a variety of combinations upfront.
Fresh legs in the front line repeatedly wins matches.
Once more today Plymouth Argyle scored their two winning goals from substitutes.
Their substitutes goals have earned them a huge number of points this season.
Their success this season has been built on this ability to score late from finishers.
We now have RL, AC, JC, JM and HS who can win matches with their goals.
Who starts and who finishes each game is irrelevant.
If all 5 of these players can remain injury free we can continue to progress.
UTG.

That first goal reminds me of being at 5 aside dicking around with the ball at the back. Then someone who's just a little bit better and more switched on nips it off you to put in tha back of the net.
No league goals from Collins till Jan? What a year/turn around that is

It’s almost like football is a workplace and you need time to gain credibility and understanding from your colleagues before you can do your best work. It’s almost like it’s a job and you need to work out where the land lies and understand the way it’s done in your new place….

Can't argue with o/p. I admit I was far from convinced early doors, looks a different player these days.

Concur with above and can't argue with o p.
We'll have to play a certain way to get the best out of JM and that might mean sacrificing our fluidity and versatility....but there is definitely a finisher in there somewhere (even though he really missed the easiest chance of a back post unmarked tap in but chose instead to pass it tamely to the defender on opposite post!🤷).
He's doing for us what he has done against us a few times in years gone by - which is nice to see - but great credit for the scouting and management team for pre-arming him up with the BG philosophy of defending, and him using his wilyness..
I've been critical in past, but fair play he's started, let's hope he continues to finish.

Sitter missed notwithstanding, those two finishes yesterday were very good, especially the second one in terms of the number of times you see a forward clean through on goal with only the keeper to beat and they make the wrong decision and the keeper either saves it or it goes wide. True strikers put those away, obviously a couple of swallows don't make a summer (or whichever thinly veiled piece of innuendo you wish to insert) but it bodes well that Marquis put his two chances away as well as he did.

(Thought I’d add to this rather than start a new one)
Another appreciation post for our no9
Nothing against Coburn, battled hard first half and has a great career ahead
Marquis won a flick on against the huge CBs within 1 minute of coming on. Watched him closely and he is so clever. Makes space, wins fouls, wins more in the air than players inches taller, always makes the right decision. And is in the right place for a tap in.
Hope he is part of the squad next season

Assuming he's on a decent L1 contract then I sense there's better goal scorers around for the money.

That wasn’t a tap in that was a one yard smash, love how he grabbed the ball and just wanted to get on with it. Where we could get a better striker who’s played second fiddle all season is Toppers guess, over to you Topper.
