(Thought I’d add to this rather than start a new one) Another appreciation post for our no9 Nothing against Coburn, battled hard first half and has a great career ahead Marquis won a flick on against the huge CBs within 1 minute of coming on. Watched him closely and he is so clever. Makes space, wins fouls, wins more in the air than players inches taller, always makes the right decision. And is in the right place for a tap in. Hope he is part of the squad next season He still didn't score a goal yesterday? Not sure he's scored many "tap ins" this season? Assuming he's on a decent L1 contract then I sense there's better goal scorers around for the money. Perhaps you could list them for us - hopefully the coaching staff will read and add to their list as options for next season.

Pirate lists enough players on the Wishlist thread so there's no point in me duplicating his good work, although silly me thought Rovers employed a HoR, a CS and a manager to identify players not rely on Gaschat for recommendations.

When we signed him my immediate thought was memories of him having good games against us. I then remember thinking the same of Otzhumer and was concerned he was one of those players who had a field day against us. Took a while but think he is now that player I was hoping for. Must be a nightmare to defend against. Does a lot off the ball that gets overlooked

Since xmas I’ve not been a fan of Coburn at all. Marquis works hard off the ball and brings others into play as well as chip in with a few goals, the likelihood of us signing a striker that’s going to bag 20 goals a year is slim so Im very happy with John being one of strikers next season. On the plus side he loves the dark arts😋

Go read the large thread for ideas. What's the point of listing players we might or might not sign when I haven't a clue, who's available, what wages they want or whether they'd consider a move to Rovers. I've no idea what motivates Pirate to do it but he clearly enjoys doing it. All I hope is JB signs a striker or two who can make assists for other players or put the ball in the net himself.

Yeah I’m a fan of Marquis, he’s knows the areas to be to convert chances in the box, he works hard and creates space for the likes of Collins and Loft to exploit.
Having someone who could easily score 15 goals + in league one if given the service will soften the blow if Collins is sold this summer.
Still expect us to bring Strikers in, but I think Marquis will play a big role in any future success.

Marquis deserved more game time towards the end of the season. Loft had a run of games (often in his place) and didn't do anything. Not sure if that was just JB giving him one final chance knowing that Marquis will still be with us next season anyway?

Really like Marquis, always feel positive when he comes on as sub. You can see the benefits his experience brings to the side, and he's a wily old fox when necessary.

Exactly Tilly's. And Coburn couldn't escape his marker like Big John does, cos he was holding his shirt all the time. (Coburn holding defender's shirt, I mean)

Coburn goes in for the fight. Hoping to shield the ball and bring others in. The number 5 on Sunday was a good few inches taller and wider and it was a bruising brawl. Marquis doesn’t try to out fight (wouldn’t be able to) but out think. Which he did well from the off and the CB was subbed off!

Depending on how you say it, it's the same..
He's John Marquis, he's taking the p!ss. He's John Marquis, he's taking the pee.
Much underrated, but I like that as he gets his assassins work done quietly and efficiently. Great control and distribution, he has a lot to offer, especially in the 6yard box and probably the best striker with a tash since Penny....?
