Nice to see we can suddenly find £5bn to build a few Submarines. Screw you Nurses. We can do both, but in reality we are doing neither. Less than half of that money is replenishing stocks given to Ukraine and the other part is to do with designing and supporting a submarine that isn't even an artist's impression. Nothing new is being bought, £5bn to go backwards slightly slower. 🙄 The only useful things announced is a tid bit towards MI5 and Mandarin language training. Headline - "Look, we are taking defence seriously." Substance - "Not really!"

Looks like we'll still be united for a bit yet:
"Support for Scottish independence has continued to slide in the country, according to an exclusive YouGov poll for Sky News, with 46% backing an exit from the UK compared to 54% who want to remain part of the union.
Support is even lower when those who answered "don't know" are included in the statistics - making it just 39% in favour of independence and 47% against.
But either way, the results show the support for the SNP's leading mission has dropped compared to last month, when a poll of polls showed 50% backed leaving the UK.
The survey also revealed that, regardless of their view on independence, 52% of the public believed Scotland would still be part of the UK in 10 years' time."

Nice to see we can suddenly find £5bn to build a few Submarines. Screw you Nurses. There are approximately 700,000 nurses in the U.K. £5BN works out as about £7,000 each. Take into consideration the cost of pension provision and NI, it’s about £4,500 each. For one year. After that, back to normal. Or perhaps they could stagger it over 10 years for an extra £37.50 a month, net after tax £30.

The government ought to give a one off bonus to the nurses and teachers in recognition of a job well done over Covid. It'll soften the real terms loss and divide the unions without committing future spends to the salary and pension obligations.

Definitely best to stay in a union for all its faults rather than go your own way and lose what you had. 😉

No, it’s to explain any pay rise for the public sector needs to be accompanied by 25% in pension, as opposed to the statutory minimum 3% of contributions between the LEL and UEL for private sector workers. You couldn’t make a pay rise of £7,000. You have to net it off by pension and NI.

It'll soften the real terms loss and divide the unions without committing future spends to the salary and pension obligations. I favour IHT as a route. It’s the one tax I want to see more of. We raise about £15BN from IHT. Peanuts compared to others. It seems right to me that those who work for their money should pay less and those who shat a golden egg should share more of it pro rata. Currently 2 doctors pay the same rate of income tax. One has £0 in family wealth and the other already had a £5M estate paid. Should we not help the poorer one achieve wealth faster? Wealth related taxes are my thing. As for the NHS, I’d rather the tax system helped people on relatively low earnings rather than just giving more money to certain folks because we have an emotional attachment to the profession. Care workers deserve as much, if not more, but they don’t have a union and a load of reallt wealthy and educated people working there to help them campaign like the medical profession does.

All the data previously confirmed that older folk voted for staying in whilst under 40s voted for independence, ergo as the demographics will over the next decade deliver a much younger population it should according to the SNP deliver an independence vote.

Terrible figures for the Lib Dems. They've never recovered from the disastrous decision to enter an unholy alliance with the Tories in 2010, and it will hold them back for years/decades/forever (delete as applicable).
