I was very surprised and shocked to hear of Alistair Darlings death ,he was someone I met on the early morning shuttle from Edinburgh on many occasions,always courteous and a very interesting man.
We we're very lucky to have him as chancellor in 2008,a very calm influence and deep thinking politician who will be much missed.

Seemed like a good man who was given an already difficult job at a very difficult time. Nice to hear he was friendly in person as that's how he always came across on TV. He potentially saved the country from economic meltdown on more than one occasion so hard to criticise the bad decisions he made  |
