Well said Wareham.Recall a rare interview when I thought Mr Wael was going to give us the details of a new ground that I have waited nearly 70 years for,and when asked he said something like ,'I have provided new hand driers in the toilets'. He was clearly ill at ease and I felt so sorry for him. After all the new Directors appointed and then soon departing the poor chap seemed out of his depth dealing with this interrogation.Don't recall the club saying much officially since so that is what is so frustrating. Just tell us where we are at even if it's the same as 50 years ago.Hoping and longing for something better is painful and not attracting new fans. Like you Colyton I’ve probably seen too many schemes, read too many words over my 58 years of support to believe it until I’m sitting in it. And the biggest sadness of it all is that had we had that stadium we could have been where some of our former rivals are today. You know who they are and so do I. Unfortunately no one has been able to tap our real potential and if someone in the 1970s had said to me that I would be getting excited about getting promoted from Division 4 and then going on a good run for a few matches in League 1 I wouldn’t have believed it and would have wondered what had happened. But we are where we are and I always support the team and am looking forward to going to FGR on Saturday and look forward to winning but let’s be honest the stewardship of our club has not kept us where we should be and this has been gradual over 50 years, or even longer. Not just Wael. It’s very sad. UTG!

Anyway who said it was to be a 4,000 seater? I've been digging back through old posts and can't find the reference. Tom G. didn't say that in his programme notes. In fact re-reading his comments it sounds much more like a wishlist item than a definite plan. Wasn’t it David Bright at some sort of seminar? I think the Evening Post then used it in one of their reports? Yep . Still not convinced we can cram 4000 seats into that space with a ‘temporary structure’ but will be pleasantly surprised if they do.

How much does your level of ambition cost you? Baggins you’re right, I don’t know about you but I haven’t got the money to help our ambition and I don’t expect heartofgas has. (Apologies if he has and I’m wrong.) But that’s not really the point is it? Wael bought us and I would have expected him, or any owner, to have done their homework and only bought us if he could improve the club and meet the needs of the club. It’s no good buying something which needs maintaining and improving if then he turns round and says ‘I can’t do that because it’s too expensive.’ That would be stupid wouldn’t it? UTG! Finance is not a problem

What gets me is we have had since the Eastville days to try and sort a new stadium, so 40 years. We have never been as close as the UWE. What is surprising is there is no plan B. When we sold off half of the car park for houses why didn't we use that to help build a stand. We could build a new east stand with 8000 seats. If we would have done this 20 years ago it would have more than paid for itself by now, with the added bonus we'd actually have a nicer environment to watch the football. It could be another 20 years before we get another UWE situation. Even if it costs £10M then lets get a proper stand built. I think the long term future has to be a new stadium but that has to be at least 10 years away. At the moment it seems there is no plan or strategy. even with the south stand it feels it is something that was said as an off the cuff remark. There doesn't seem to be any strategy behind it. You really need to do some investigation work before posting your ramblings as Bristol RFU sold off half of the car park Rovers had nothing to do with that deal and the S/SW stands development was originally discussed at a Board meeting, so not just an off the cuff remark made to the press. The strategy seems to be to replace the tents with an actual stand, whilst increasing the seating capacity. Topper, you really need to do some investigation work before posting your ramblings. That was all explained on pages 23 and 24 in a non rude way, unlike yourself. 🤡 I am obviously nowhere near as knowledgeable/in the know as you. Apologies if I didn't conform to the way you want people to behave on here. Maybe you could explain all the other rules you have for posting on here oh wise one. As for the off the cuff remark, I was talking coming from the rovers hierarchy not the press, Bright saying it will be 4000 seats.

As Wael is the owner of the club, is not expected of the man to do what he has been doing? Why else would Wael buy Rovers?

The housing developers must have been laughing all the way to the bank The West Stand must have cost about £1m to build so they got a whole estates worth for £1.5m. So yes, they must have peed their pants with excitement. from memory when it opened the figure bandied about 2.5m. Couldn't believe how much it cost when the same season wycombe spent the same amount on their big seated stand that ran the length of the pitch.

Am still not understanding how 4,000 seats can be built in that area. It's just over 25% of the footprint of the ground so that suggests that wrap it round the whole ground, with a little extra height along the sides, and we would have 16,000 seats.

Think i said earlier in the thread, the south west bit and corner would have to hold the bulk as there is more room there and could potentially go as high as the West stand. Not sure if that is possible with temp stands though!

Can't see how that won't need planning first, so they better get a wriggle on. Could it be modular? Get the existing footprint in, then add to it once permission is given? Either way, it's 'ambitious'!

While they're at it they might aswell go round the other corner aswell I've long thought a 'U' shaped stand including the away terrace would really help the atmosphere and aesthetics. Isn't there a sight line issue from the main stand though that needs addressing first?

Then it would need doubling for 4000. I personally don't see a planning problem based on Glou cricket / city ground. Also it will section off this part of the ground to Alton Road. At present there are big gaps : loud noise and issues with privacy. My worry now based on other forum users is this a pipedream ?. I hope not because a new large south stand would increase STs and attendances. I mean why did TG raise it if there is no intention ?

footballgroundguide.com/leagues/conference/conference-north/darlington-blackwell-meadows.html As an idea of what you can get in behind the goal, Darlington erected this full length terrace at their shared rugby ground. There are just eight rows with standing room for 1,000. I'm not sure how many rows we have at present but it looks at least double that. Moving the pitch towards the Thatchers end could add a few more rows. If we somehow managed to squeeze in 24 rows along there and add a few rows to the wrap-around it wouldn't be far off 4,000, but I'm no mathematician :-). Liverpool's two new stands have terracing that juts out into the air from the top of the stands, a clever solution that doesn't take up any land or cast shadow on houses. Could that be possible? Obviously not on that scale but something similar.

I do wonder if DB had been misquoted and he said 1,400 as a 4,000 capacity makes no sense at all, particularly when the rest of the Mem only holds 8,000(?) including the Grandstand and all the terracing. Has anybody asked TG on Twitter the likely capacity of the new stands?

Right, I didn't know that. Is there a magician in the house?

Just checked DB's Twitter and he's posted a link to the article so the increased capacity must be correct. He's also separately confirmed there'll be no safe standing and it'll be just seats.
