Is this day and age can't Tom use his influence in FL meeting and get teams to agree to use artificial pitches?
It's not like the ones I used to play on where you tore your legs to shreads making a tackle.
The quality has moved on beyond compare from the Luton, QPR and Preston days.
We must spend a small fortune each season to re turf and then every few years go for a major overhaul.
Surely better to spend half that money on a pitch that will last 25 years that just needs simple maintenance? - saces on staff costs as well, as well as saving water so better for the planet.
The Pitch can be used for social events and training as well, so could earn and save the club money.
Seems a no brainer to me.

Can't see it happening, though noticed Gloucester Rugby pitch is artificial only when some one pointed it out. As for the Mem the pitch was brilliant and won awards for a couple of years so why do we have to keep digging it up?

Isnt the pitch at Ashton Gate a hybrid?
I know it cost a lot of money to initially lay but we must spend a lot each season. Is grass more costly overall?
Definitely think lower league clubs should look at this as a major cost saving.
I think there was a feature on Football Focus on a Scottish lower league club that had a Saturday kids club playing at 12 and then the first team played on it at 3, before a floodlight local six a side competition at 7.
More income and negligible costs.

Problem is the amount of smoke bombs chucked on it. It'll look like it has big cigarette burns all around the edges

We will only be at The Mem a few more years 👍🏾

Why does "Tom" have anymore influence than the other 91 CEO's? I wonder what JB's views are on astro pitches, as he seems to have a polarised view on most matters.

No thanks, hate the stuff. May already have one? But an all weather pitch at The Quarters would be useful, and could be rented out

That comment by the OP did make me giggle. The Championship clubs have all of the power in the EFL. Perhaps influence was not the right word. As a young CEO with new ideas and initiatives he is one of 92 people to be able to make suggestions to the appropriate people, as opposed to 1 fan out of hundreds of thousands. He definitely has more influence than any of us. There is no doubt that football has not learned from covid, or Bury, etc, etc. Many clubs are months away from going to the wall and seem to have a gamblers "that's just the way it is attitude". In a recent interview, podcast thingy, Tom was talking about levelling up with the Premier league TV money to help lower league clubs. In the next sentence he said we have to spend more to compete. Any trickle down TV monies seem destined to be gambled on new signings, wages and agents fees, which if it doesn't pay off, means more debts. Something needs to be done. The PFA is too strong and my opinion is players are paid far far too much money. People may defend them saying it is a short career, but how many people on the forum stay in the same jobs for 45 years. - I'll add a caveate that if you are 60 plus you may have started in a career where you had a "job for life", but I doubt many 20 or 30 year old now will be doing the same job in their late 60's. As an example, I see Linesy is now working in insurance part time. I bet the PFA helped him with training courses to enable him to get a job and I bet that was a lot better than my careers advice meeting at school. I had to do it all myself with the help of my parents. I doubt linesy is earning a full time equivalent of 4-5 times less than his main insurance colleagues now - but he was probably earning 4-5 times more than those people when he was a 4th division footballer. No doubt changing the wages structures would be difficult, so getting a good artificial pitch seems a easier way to me to save long term costs and earn extra income.

You've now gone off at a complete tangent. I doubt anybody has any issues with what our players earn. The madness starts in the Championship!
