Gutted for you Nick What an inspiration
Although terrible news, I am so pleased you went out on such a high with the Gas. What a season. What a finale. What a celebration.
Always a gashead.

Very unfortunate for Nick to have to retire . However, he has chosen the moment and has left with great reflection and gratitude . A new door now opens for him ...go enjoy life and a new career Nick.
Thanks for everything and dont forget to come visit us all in the future.

Sad news, having a career as a pro footballer was the dream of most people at one point in their lives. To have it taken away by such a cruel disease must be devastating.
Having said that, Nick has shown us on and off the pitch what a warrior he is, so I have no doubt he’ll succeed in whatever he chooses to do next. I hope the club continues to do everything it can to support him.

A cult hero to me and my small group of Gas chums after his Harrogate winner that day, adding to that the winning goal in the FA Cup against Sutton & a consolation thumping header in the JPT battering by Exeter. Nick really grew into that season and proved a solid choice at left back when called upon, unbelievable he was playing professionally with that horrible illness for many months completely unawares. As cruel as it is he’s had his playing career stolen from him, he will beat this thing and hopefully a career in the game away from the pitch awaits him.
Much love to the entire Anderton family.

Sounds like the club may have offered him something reading into Joey's tweet. Which I think sums up our club nicely. Might not be what he wants long term but hopefully gives him some peace financially whilst he continues his recovery

Sad to hear this, firstly good luck in your quest for good health, if you battle cancer as you battled on the pitch you should be fine.
I wish you good luck in your next chapter Nick, and just remember what Martin Luther King. Junior. said - “You don’t have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step “
Good luck Nick, best wishes to you and your family x

That must be an incredibly hard thing to deal with and get your head around. Not just dealing with the fact you have cancer but the loss of your career you fought so hard for. When he gets through the disease lets hope he can find another fulfilling career, be that in football or not. Just shows none of us know what's around the next corner.

Really sad to read this. The main thing is that Nick gets to beat this awful illness, and spend many enjoyable years with his family, keep fighting Nick.

Gutted about this. Was praying we’d see him running back out at the Mem in the quarters one day to give him the ovation he deserves.
Wishing him all the luck in the world for the remainder of his cancer battle and whatever he goes on to do with his life post-playing 💙

Sad news but health always comes first. I hope they lay on some sort of testimonium for him in the close season, even though he only played for one season he will always be regarded as a legend at the club for his part he played in the promotion last season.

Very sad to read this, but he seems to be taking the news reasonably well and celebrating the fact he did have a decent professional career for a number of years, which is more than almost all of us can say.
Best wishes Nick for your recovery.
