I listened to JBs after match review against Plymouth Argyle and he was honest in his thoughts - blamed no one and wished the Janners well.
After that he mentioned that if we are to mount anything like a challenge next season we will need twelve signings .... not new faces ... signings. He also said a number of them were already in the building.
So thinking that through this morning ... JB doesn't have the best rep for getting the numbers in he wants, so i fully expect the dozen to become eight or nine as things develop. That's not enough though.
I am hoping he lets Anderson move on along with MacDonald and i saw Jamie Egan is also up for review.... Coutts and Whelans roles may simply evolve... Anssi will be off as well at last - Potentially six out + non returning loanees like Balcombe, Quansah. So eight ?
But what about those we are literally stuck with who are still in contract and are not performing on a regular basis - no point in naming them as everyone has an opinion but I can think of least five players that truly arent good enough now and will not be good enough for a top six challenge so we truly should look to move on probably at a loss. Does the twelve number increase if we can get shot of some of these - it would need to for sure.
Would be great to get Bogarde back and Grant Ward signed up - truly not convinced with Coburn but JB likes him - That's three. Add in Gibson if wages allow on a permanent - Four.
So if Bogarde came - room for four more loanees over two windows and that would mean another four permanent signings in addition to GW and LG. I'm not sure its enough.
We all know what we need in, quality wise - Argyle showed us what good looks like last night but I just don't expect to suddenly turn in to a challenger through one summer - As i said before I think it will take two more seasons, potentially three or four windows at least to have the hardcore quality we need in the side.... Top Ten next year would be good progress.
Bloody Hell - Happy to be proved wrong but I sense another season of building next year and vital some of the permanents add more value than what we already have.

In his pre-match pressers he suggested the opposite, in that the squad only needed a few tweaks not the wholesale changes like in previous summers.

Whelan was bought in as a coach, was added to the player list as we had slots available. Coutts should move on, not needed as a coach. Anssi, will he stay as keeper coach?
Grant has been mentioned as being offered a new contract. Anderson has not accepted the contract offer yet.
There was a list somewhere of players and contract situation.
JB also mentioned experience needed in he squad.

I assume T Clarke's still got a year of his new contract to run?

Wael will be keeping a keen eye on his expensive mistakes! Clarke contract, possibly Connolly, McCormick and Evans?? Cant keep doing this.
Bogarde yes please. Gibson if we can get a good deal. Ditto Taylor. Ward absolutely. Coburn. Think we can do better. He needs to try and get in the Boro team if the stay down. Couple of Fin Azaz type loans Some experience and give some young uns their chances

My first thought too. Maybe the transfer window will be just like an advent calendar. 🌲

Catch a manager on a bad day and they’ll tell you they need to replace half their team.
Catch them on a good day and they only need a few extras.
I think in reality we’ll need 8 or 9 just to cover outgoings.

I wouldn’t expect us to be on a par with where Argyle have been this year for a few years yet. I hope next season will be a relegation worry-free season and moving around the upper mid table area with a challenge at the play-offs. I wouldn’t take too much notice about what JB says in post match interviews, he says lots of things, some of them contradictory. Well done for this season but he’ll need time to recharge, reflect on this season, the good and the bad and come back refreshed. And of course we will need to have at least half a new squad with those mentioned going and the loans going back. We will need to take our allowed quota of loans and I bet some of them will be players we’ve not heard of and there’s nothing wrong with that, it’s just the way things are. I’m sure we’ll make some new signings though whether we pay for them or sign players out of contract who knows and whatever it will all be “undisclosed” anyway. But we will need to get defenders, midfielders and a couple of attackers who are first team ready, hope they make a good start (for once) and give us all some optimism by the time September comes.
UTG!

This time his groin.

Time to cut Grant loose for sure. It’s another Rodman situation bordering on Kyle Bennett.

Perhaps we offer Grant an appearance based contract on a low basic wage?

Time to cut Grant loose for sure. It’s another Rodman situation bordering on Kyle Bennett. Not a bad player. Didn’t rate him in league one last time around but he was decent in league two and think a lot of the relegation season was due to him being with a lot of bad players. Shame he hasn’t had a chance to have a go in league one alongside a decent squad but his injury record isn’t worth the risk

Plus all the loan players Balcombe, Gibson (who possibly my stay?), Quansah, Bogarde, and Coburn, personally I'd also look to move on Loft and McCormick may as well move on if he can't even make the squad at this stage of the season.
It's easy to see why JB will need to recruit 12 players even if there are no further surprise departures like Belshaw.

Hardly kicked a ball . Definite black mark for who ever wanted this transfer done .

Do you mean about 50% of this forum? Proud to be in the 50% that absolutely did not want him back. Not needed, not good enough, nowhere near worth 250k🤢
