I blame the employer recruiting system that drills everything down to the miserly last penny. And keeps it there. No pay rises for 20 years.A lot of industry and business hasn't been bothered to invest in local young talent - it's easier to employ immigrants for cheaper. An example was the stewarding at Mem a few years ago, where quality was sacrificed for quantity. If it's perfectly acceptable for companies to recruit diversity into their workforce, it should be across the board and recruit indigenous UK locals too. I work with many immigrants and none of them feel unwelcome, or they wouldn't be here. They do the same job alongside UK workers and are just as proud as I am in my position. The club should allow for cash payments as well as card/mob. It only has itself to blame. Is that a Gaschat 'fact'? Ha! Probably not literally, but certainly many public sector workers have had no pay rise of over 2% per year. You get the gist..

In fact there's an increasing number year on year. Taxi drivers, deliveroo riders, fitness instructors, warehouse ops, cafes and bars. No doubt some left but it's up to our club and our country to employee people by paying properly and providing a good place to work. Good post! There's also an acute epidemic of newly opened Turkish Barbers, Vietnamese nail bars, Car cleaners and Polish owning Bristol pubs! To name but a few ... It's all going well for them.

With the exception of the pubs, none of the other types of business you mentioned are ever involved in money laundering, modern day slavery, or other nefarious practices, are they? Phew.

And double header programme ((Pompey and Charlton) programme sold out by 2.30!
What if you are a Rovers fan who had a family do yesterday and we're only going to the Charlton game, or what about the away fans on Friday?
Yes, a bumper edition to cover both games is logical but with the biggest gate of the season, a lot of away fans unable to get tickets and the programme covering another game, you would have thought someone would have had sense to get more printed.
I think? Pompey was the best 50/50 prize of the season. Let's hope people who have already bought this edition of the Pirate will still buy a 50/50 on Friday.

I used to see Eastern European staff in most bars and restaurants and in my experience they've vanished. Rare to spot one now. The deterioration in service is remarkable, in my opinion. I take your point about paying people a fair and proper wage though.

I take your point about paying people a fair and proper wage though. Before the Central European (sometimes calling some Polish, Eastern European riles them!) folk, I used to see most bars and restaurants employ locals or students but they vanished too. Like I posted earlier, the remarkable deterioration in service (sometimes we see this at Mem for example) is partly because businesses and industry haven't invested in training or recruitment of young local staff for years. All that generally stopped. It's just easier to employ the lowest common denominator price wise Oh and neglect training/recruitment for a new generation, thus making staff aka working people a de-grade in commodity and helps keep wages to a minimum. Either way, bring back cash option for everything at Mem! Including, sc...
