This week’s fixtures ….
Grimsby V Barnet
Altrincham V Torquay
Braintree V FGR
Dover V Dartford
Halifax V Eastleigh
Kidderminster V Macclesfield
Lincoln V Aldershot
Nuneaton V Gateshead
Southport V Chester
Welling V Alfreton
Woking V Rovers
Wrexham V Telford
…. At least either Halifax or Eastleigh (or both) will drop points. I would be happy with a draw. Ditto Grimsby, Barnet. Ditto Kiddie and Macc. Not often you get the top 8 playing against each other. A big three points at stake for us.

Yes it's a fascinating list. I hope Grimsby goes ahead as I accidentally have BT Sport and will be hoping for a Grimsby win. There's a risk in them doing well too, but hauling in Barnet is top priority.
Anyway, think how happy the fan in the Christmas ad will be if John-Lewis scores the winner. Bless his little heart.

I personally think the teams to watch below us are Grimsby, Lincoln and Eastleigh - I dont think Macc or Kiddy will keep up with the pack

Lincoln were stuffed 4-0 at Eastleigh last week inc missing 3 pens, their away form isn't good enough to allow them to catch us if we keep our present form going, I can only see Grimsby being a threat although surely it's now down to us finishing in one of the two top spots?
Nothing less than a win at Woking will do as their recent form has been shocking and they've also played two game this week already.

You accidentally have BT Sport?! Well I've never actually sought to have it, but we use BT as internet provider and it seems to have appeared on one of our two tv's . Can't get it on the other one. I have a mysterious relationship with technology, much like Catweazle did.

I haven't only just noticed - watched FGR away earlier in the season on it. I just mean I didn't particularly intend to have it and yet there it is, like a pot belly.

I said we would both pull away after we beat them and we have started to have kind of done that. Why we are bothering with the likes of Halifax's result in particular god knows! They are a part time team who even with if they win their games in hand will still be 5 points behind us.

As I recall, when we played them, they had won all five of their games and were riding high on top of the league, while we were struggling. It seemed huge when we beat them.

The more teams just below us drop points the bigger the gap between them will grow, think how gutting it will be to catch Barnet then watch the likes of Eastleigh sail past us to take the top spot!

Yes but that is if they win their games in hand! If you look at the difference between us and Halifax over the past say 20 games then we would be even further ahead of them. We have momentum catching Barnet. I believe in this team enough that I can't see anybody else finishing above us. Barnet are the only danger.

Anyway, at the risk of being shot for defeatism, if we go through a bad patch we do still want to be safely ahead of 6th place.

It's very possible we'll need 80pts to finish 5th, which means we still need 24pts from 16 games, which is no gimme. Anyone remember 1999/00? We took 6pts from our last 10 games to go from an automatic spot to missing out on the play-offs. Now's not the time for complacency.

Not often you get the top 8 playing against each other. And the highest team in each match, playing away.

I'm not being big headed but from this position, and with our recent results, improving squad, and lack of injuries or players close to suspensions, we just have to look up at Barnet, rather than down. If we didn't get into the play-offs from this position, and in this lge as it is this year, it would be a crime similar to Ollie's team in 2000. If you get into the play-offs then being 2nd, 3rd, 4th or 5th is pretty immaterial. The advantage /disadvantage to any position is slim. To be blunt it's either top or 'who cares'.

That's because you are a wild, romantic Cavalier who lives by a code of death or glory, but I am a dour, practical Roundhead, who thinks of securing one objective at a time and just seeing how far we can go.
