I’m going to make a bold statement here. We won’t have a better chance to get promoted from this league for a very long time. Less big teams, teams with point deductions, our manager has a second year in a row to improve in league 1, slightly bigger budget for us due to higher capacity. It’s all over to Joey to get it right. Really hoping for a fast start for once. Nice little 3 wins out of 4 or something, get right up there amongst the early pace setters & give ourselves something to build on from the off. I genuinely cannot remember the last time we had a decent start to the season. i.e. in the top half of the table after the first five games? I would have a guess that its been 10/15 years since we did that!

Being on the shoulder of the leading pack through to Christmas ideally. Then we put our foot down!

Although tbf last year didn’t we go top of the table after the midday win against Oxford at the Mem in August, albeit for only a hour or two? But strangely growing up it was the other way around. Late 60s and 70s I always remember good starts in Division 3, we’d be up there and often in the top 3 but we would combust after Christmas. Time before transfer windows of course. it would be good to have a decent or half decent start, top 10 at least. As always it will depend on the fixtures. Avoiding the top teams may allow us to get a few wins on the board. UTG!

2009/10 is the last I can remember. All went a bit pear shaped after Southampton away though!

2009/10 is the last I can remember. All went a bit pear shaped after Southampton away though! Yeah I was thinking of that season. That was probably the last season we started well. We dropped off after Southampton but still had a decent season. The next one, however, wasn't so good!

What a game that was at Soton!
Andy Williams coming on as sub absolutely destroyed their left back before his superb winning goal.
Then on to Norwich on the Saturday - oh dear!

Wi-gone? www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/65881568His Majesty's Revenue & Customs has lodged a winding-up petition against Wigan Athletic over unpaid tax bills, with a hearing date of 26 July. It follows the English Football League placing the Latics under a transfer embargo last week for breaching league rules on tax payment. Wigan will begin the League One season after relegation with an eight-point deduction for late payment of salaries. It also understood money is outstanding from last month's salary payments. The club has said it is in the process of being sold but one of the interested parties, 21-year-old businessman Sarbjot Johal, failed to gain EFL approval for his proposed purchase of Morecambe earlier this year. Winding-up petitions can be resolved by payment of debt or by arrangement of a payment plan with the creditor, in this case HMRC itself.

If Wigan were wound up who replaces them ? A quick play off between the highest relegated League 1 team and the losing League 2 play off side ?

If Wigan were wound up who replaces them ? A quick play off between the highest relegated League 1 team and the losing League 2 play off side ? I guess timing would be important. Before or after the fixtures and the EFL AGM may determine it. But the season Bury went to the wall iirc there were only 23 teams in the league Bury were due to compete in. And only 3 were to be relegated. Which is what I think would happen if Wigan do go out. UTG!

www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/65909639Looks like Wigans takeover is a step nearer. As it is before the AGM and the fixtures release I would think it will just now take its time to have it completed. Looks far more positive for them. UTG!

Well of course we started averagely getting 7 points out of the first five games but we were fouth in league one as late as December 2019 when Coughlan jumped ship.

"Championship clubs recorded a total revenue of £676m, an increase of £76m (13%), Deloitte calculated, helped by falling wage costs. But it added: "Despite the decrease, wages remained higher than the revenue earned by clubs in the division for the fifth consecutive year, with a wage/revenue ratio of 108%." Mr Bridge said: "The net debt of Championship clubs remains significant, with a vast number of clubs increasing their loans over the 2021/22 season. "The glamour of Premier League promotion is spearheading the continual drive for investment in Championship clubs, often in an unsustainable manner, driving some clubs to overstretch financially. "It is critical that long-term decisions are now made by clubs' owners, and with the introduction of the Independent Regulator, focus will turn to improving the distribution mechanism of revenues between the leagues and clubs.
