After the death of The Smith's Andy Rouke, the friends Friday night pub chat went on a tangent that you (well, we) dont hear of many people called Smith anymore.
Rovers history has seen many players called Smith, Taylor, Hall, Brown and of course Jones and Williams.
(I had to change the order as I originally wrote Brown Hall, but some on here have minds in a gutter and would say we have had plenty of those!).
In this multicultural society, it is surprising that English football have had so few Khan, Ali or Singh's (our immediate thought was Gurnham).
We have had Dagnogo, Zabeck, Caroyal, Agogo and recently Edwards-Stryjewski (whatever happened to him - if he becomes a hero and kids get his name put on the shirt that will cost an arm and a leg so will eat into the debts! ...Not great for a chant either, give us a S....., give us a T...., give us a - wait what's next, oh never mind!).
I suppose just because he was so outstanding the Latvian gets my vote for most exotic. You would never have thought in the 60s and 70's that we would have a Vitalijs Astafjevs playing for us.

I play footy with a Latvian on Monday nights, he’s never heard of Astafjevs. Incredible absolutely fkin incredible. I know English is his second language, possibly he’s struggling with my Bristolian. But I’m shocked and disappointed…..blokes a legend.

True story. Been away for a few weeks on holiday and got into conversation with a cricket fan in late 20s. Were chatting about cricket generally and he’d never heard of Viv Richards and didn’t know who Ian Botham was/is. I was staggered.
UTG!

Beefy heavily involved every Ashes summer. Perhaps the guy didn’t have Sky TV but come on!

Zero interest in cricket, never watched it, never played it, don’t really know terminology and/or rules but even I know who Ian Botham is. Must’ve been living locked away under his mum n dads staircase if he claims to be a fan and never heard of an all time English sporting legend.
