You're assuming Championship clubs will be interested in paying £m's this summer for a L1 striker in his late 20's. You’re assuming they wouldn’t. There is no evidence to suggest a championship club wouldn’t pay millions for the top scorer of L1 for a few years. They clearly haven't been interested in paying it in the past or Peterborough would have soon sold him to the highest bidder.

There’s a difference between £8m, which I remember him being valued at a few years ago, and £1/2m with little left on his contract. Either way, this is going away from the whole point you were making of why would he leave Boro, which I believe we have now covered. There is plenty of motivation for him, like any other footballer

Truthfully, i have no idea but i can only surmise that the clubs would come to an agreement. Then again, there contracts are really worked on. As much as i would love him back, i just don’t see him being a Barton type of player, he likes them younger. I give you Pitman and Clarke... Or Whelan and Coutts...

Personally don’t see him going to a championship side , he’s a bit of a flat track bully in our division but don’t think he’s got the pace or nouse to play up a division now at his age . Can see him going to a team like Derby , he’ll guarantee 20 odd goals and give you a great chance of promotion. I’d value him at 1 million now. I think when DC gave a wink to the camera about Marty T not getting any other offers from the league above he was making a similar comment. MT was another L1 flat track bully just lacked the athleticism needed to be a storm in the championship. I think a lot of the time the difference does come down to athleticism. We have some players in league 1 who are just as good finishers and skill wise as the league above. However, in the champ you need to be this good, and be extremely strong, fast and powerful. When we’ve played teams at champ standard I always note how their teams just look faster and stronger. Either that, or the players who do get in those sides who are normal sized are massively skilful.

To address the main thread, dream on if you think we can sign players like JCH with the other clubs in the division.
We have reached pretty much our level now and teams above us in this league simply have more money, more appeal, better training, better physios.
The only way you’ll get JCH playing for us and not for one of the bigger teams is if we pay a huge amount of money in wages. Either that or by chance one of the teams above done want a proven L1 goal scorer who wins tons of free kicks, holds the ball up and can make goals out of nothing.

Luton have just gained promotion by having a team who are limited ability wise but by god they make up for it in pace power and athleticism.

I am guessing that to players of that calibre, coming back would be seen as a backward step, at this time anyway. IF we got promoted then it could be different

They are amazing at set pieces too, score so many goals something for us to work on, get it into big Connor 😉

He's now said that he'd been open to a move back to league one, so that would reduce our sell on clause, but put him back in our price range (deducting the sell on money).

Break our transfer record by at least 3x for a player that would be in his 30’s and have no future sell on value within a couple of years? Unless Wael has sold to Sir Jim Ratcliffe or it’s April 1st then I’m not convinced 🤣
