We need a midfield player who is a deadball specialist and who can score from distance. That stops teams sitting deep like all the lower teams did and will do next season

I think he’s a very good player and hopefully now he’s had a year to adapt he will get into double figures again. One of my favourite players in recent years.

Agreed, I think that some people are being a bit too quick in writing him off.

Me neither. The fanfare with Sercs is a strange one. One very good season becoming a firm fans favourite, then followed it up with two very crap ones. Also didn’t look much cop at all in both games against us last season. It’s a common thing. Like insisting any player who was good on the pitch is an immediate choice for manager (Mansell?). What makes a manager is totally different to what makes a player. Tons of players have commanding and inspirational qualities on the pitch but it’s totally different when your job is getting other people to give these kinds of displays. Entirely different skill set. Often decent managers were pretty nothing players. Same with ex players, or, players that had a good game against us (Oztumer was one i fell for, he was superb against us but so many other variables). Sercombe wasn’t even considered the future when he was here and at 33, it would be an underwhelming signing. Familiarity is a powerful thing. I want players who played for the promoted teams last year who are surplus, very good prem youngsters and/or players who did it at the right end of league 1 last year. If sercombe is the answer then we will be nothing more than a league 1 mid table side at best. I don’t even think Finley and Evans are the answer unless they dramatically improve. They’ve had a year to impose themselves in league 1 and neither has. Of course, we don’t know what their fitness is - there’s a chance they are both carrying minor injuries, who knows, one or both might have other problems, or it could be simply we didn’t have a defence or strikers to take the pressure off which is why players like ward, who can tackle, were so essential. Perhaps with a good defence and attack both Finley and Evans will suddenly look good when they have the space and time to play their game. Finley seemed to lose his way last season once we lost Rossiter and never really replaced him, if Rossiter returns to full fitness hopefully then he'll bring out the best again in Finley. As far as Sercs apparently JB wanted to re-sign Sercs in January 22 so it's not only fans wanting ex players to return to the club.

Edit, seen other posts that I agree with. Guy was played differently last year to the year before, but always gave his all and was often double marked.

We need an experienced defensive midfielder to replace coutts/Whelan/ Rossiter when he’s injured and I think that is one of our priorities or certainly should be. We also need a central defender or two with a bit of experience who can organise what is an extremely young defence. And we need two quick wide players to give us some width , that awful narrow 4-3-3 formation with three strikers Barton mostly used after Christmas will see us in a relegation scrap and quite possibly relegated.

I think midfield is the one place we have experience. But another body definitely required. As we only have one CB I’d say we need 3. Agree with the rest!
