The whole party is a mess. People thought Labour under Corbyn was a mess but this is another level

Johnson out? Wasn't that part of his charm with the ladies?? 😃
Another one who can see the writing on the wall, he was very likely to be ousted at the next GE, wanted to avoid a 'Portillo moment' I would wager.

What a bitter and vindictive resignation statement. Especially the bit about being ahead in the polls when he took over and now that lead is crumbling. I wonder why that is the case, Boris?
Anyway he's a clown and a shyster and he won't be missed. He's used the whole country for his personal gain and ambition and I'm sure the £20m per annum in speaking engagements will soften the blow to his ego 🙄

The "faithful" seem to think he's leaving to avoid being associated with the GE defeat, then will parachute into a by election and return to politics with an eye on the leadership and the following GE.
Seems a bit Machiavellian but could you really bet against him at least thinking he could do this?

Thoughts are with our Tory voting friends at this sad time….. francegas 😂👍 Thank you for your kind thoughts Yatton 🙄. Yet again Britain proves to be the laughing stock of the world. Only in the UK could a PM/MP lose their job over a cup of tea and slice of cake and whether he mislead parliament about it, then having an equiry about it all led by someone who hates him and is on the opposite side of the political spectrum.😂😂 Perhaps if Boris had picked on an oil rich dictatorship, Equitorial Guinea for example, told the UK and Parliament they possessed WMD and we would be blown to pieces within minutes, took the country to war resulting in 10s of thousands of innocent people losing their lives as well as 179 British soldiers,he may just still be PM.! British democracy at its best. Thank god I'm out of it.

He doubled down rather than show contrition.

British democracy at its best. Thank god I'm out of it. Forgot to add that he didn't lose his job over tea and cake, he lost it over the Chris Pincher affair, backing an alleged sex pest and trying to appoint him as a Whip with access to people and the power to keep things quiet. That's when Conservative ministers started resigning. And for what it's worth, the Standards Committee is about lying to Parliament, not having an unauthorised gathering during lockdown. Don't fall for the tea and cake story, it belittles the gravity of the real reason.

4 of the 7 members are Conservatives and they gave him the chance to mitigate by agreeing to a lower charge. He doubled down rather than show contrition. ....and once we all get to read the report (scheduled to be published on Monday I think) we'll all learn a lot more about what happened and how the committee reached their judgement. All we know so far is that Parliament appointed Harriet Harman to lead the investigation, well after she had publicly made clear on social media that she thought Johnson was guilty of the charges he faces. The Labour Party chair of the investigation (the aforementioned Ms Harman) then very quietly changed the charges from the standard charge (which is "...'deliberately' or 'knowingly' misleading the house...") to simply "...misleading the House..." - and at the same time the ex-Labour Speaker of the House changed another set of rules meaning the committee's findings could force a by-election. For those struggling to keep up, before hearing any evidence the head of the inquiry has already pronounced him guilty, the charge has been altered (to make sure based on what he had already admitted they could find him guilty) and the punishment for being found guilty had been dramatically increased from what was in place up until the start of this inquiry... Worse still, when the committee released their initial dossier in March 2023 it referenced Sue Gray's investigation 26 times. Sue Gray who had since been appointed Chief of Staff to the Leader of the Labour Party....it got so bad that Lord Pannick (a legal expert but also well known for opposing Johnson, Brexit, the Conservatives and the government) said that none of this process would be acceptable in a comparable legal trial - but the Parliamentary committee dismissed that pointing out that they were allowed to change the rules as and when they liked as it was a parliamentary not a legal process...

Genuinely hilarious!
We must wait for the report, but it was rigged for sure, despite being Tory dominated, in fact that had double the numbers of Labour.
The rules were changed to screw him, despite the inquiry can only make recommendations, it’s up for the house to actually decide on punishment. Boris also changed the rules of what’s expected for MPs who mislead parliament, rigging the system.
It was only a cuppa tea! Literally not even what the inquiry is about..

Remember how we were told we had to wait for the Sue Gray report and how she was unimpeachable and straight down the line ? 😂 These Boris sycophants will literally believe anything he says , however implausible . It’s hilarious but also bloody worrying that people buy this crap 🙄

If I read this right, you are saying that we should wait for the report but you are already dismissing it? Any sanctions would have been for Parliament to decide, has Boris gone before any could be brought? Leaving Parliament with no blemish on his record, at least I'm sure that's what will be claimed. He also avoids the potential embarrassment of facing a by election if his constituencies recall due to a 10 day suspension.

A third MP stands down. Three by election defeats would add pressure on Rishi Sunak. Almost as if Boris intends to be a thorn in Sunak's side. 🤔
