Quality centreback, for dirty Leeds, Man U and Scotland.
If we sign anyone half as good, he will be excellent.
Weird, as I was listening to some old new wave music including Jilted John earlier, with the sing-along chorus Gordon is a , which was a regular terrace chant aimed at McQueen by rival supporters.
The Marcus Stewart charity match raised awareness of players having head injuries and other ailments related to heading heavy footballs, Gordon had dementia.
Thank God the balls nowadays are nowhere near as heavy as those of the 60s and 70s. When they were wet it was a bit like heading a medicine ball.
RIP big man

Can still picture his pannini sticker! Weird. Was just thinking about that song jilted John!

Gordon's header in 1977 against England was magnificent.
If he'd not injured himself crashing into a Hampden goal post in the Home Internationals, the World Cup would have been interesting. 💙🏴

Excellent centre half for Leeds, Man U and Scotland whose dementia was probably caused by excessive heading of the ball.
But I should add that the balls in the 60s/70s were not the old leather balls of the 50s and are the same weight in todays game.
The difference is the surface which was harder than the cushioned casing of the modern ball nowadays.

That cannot be definitively proved and dementia can be a disease that attacks all walks of life, from the fittest and non physical to the hard physical sportsmen and women. At the moment there is no common denominator. My mother died of a stroke that was brought on by it, horrific experience that has left it’s scars

From the opening gambit . However, the magnitude of the association might differ across populations of elite football players, including female players, and whether the findings are generalisable to contemporary football players is uncertain.

Yes, of course i read it and due to being 5h1t scared of the possibility of a genetic predisposition to it, after mum having it and dying due to complications from it, it’s an obsession unfortunately. I have had the chance to speak with various specialists and nurses. Several of the specialists, off record, expressed ideation of external reasons such as dietary intake, lack of proper nourishment and much, much more. Evil disease and extremely tough on those of us that care or cared, for those who suffer/ed. i take many supplements, sorry to digress, to keep blood flow at the best i can get. I think it would be much more balanced if the powers that be undertook research on more than just football. Boxing is the one the comes to mind as a priority, maybe they would ban it if they showed conclusive proof ? I will never get over seeing what happened to mum. I just hope that cures or, at the very minimum, drugs were found that slowed the rate of progression down. It’s something that is close to my heart so i really do use a lot of natural supplements but each has to do what they feel is right for them. I now very rarely drink either.
