Big risk here. Played 41 games in the last 4 seasons. No wonder Leeds United released him. Then again......... More a gamble than a risk, if it comes off we get a Premiership player on the cheap who could push to promotion if it doesn't we've wasted one player's playing budget, assuming we'd just pay him a typical L1 salary. It sounds unlikely he'd drop two divisions anyway, although perhaps he thinks his body can cope better with a lower standard of football. |

To be fair the only way Rovers will get promoted is by taking some level of risk. We don’t have the budget to create a promotion by just spending our budget. We may need some unicorns to get up there. Evident with the likely 2 year deal we are offering a 34 YO. JB has always seemed keen on either very good proven players lengthening their career or premier league kids. Either way, he wants to find players who are too good for L1, rather than solid league 1 players who are unlikely to ever play higher, or old boys on their swan song. Similar to Holloway. Mark Walters, Frankie Bennett, and then Jason Roberts as a younger player…. Still, beats Garner who’s approach was to buy players who had good championship manager stats yet had absolutely no bottle or will. At least you know JB signings will want to train to the death and run through brick walls. That’s a minimum requirement round these parts these days. |
