Sometimes a sinner can save a fellow sinner - so I've read! You are right Tilly, there are many a councillor, mentor who are able to, and do help troubled folk by calling on there own experiences to help folk through troubled times, i can well imagine Joe Barton helping the lad to improve on and off the pitch, some folk may ridicule the notion but i think it better to try rather than give up on someone. Our old padre would agree

If Bartons problems were a thing of the past then I'd agree. Sadly hes been in court twice since he joined us. Not really a good example to set any player, let alone one in the same boat! see you at the last game of the season for the promotion party? No, not this year. Happy to buy you a pint at Twerton though

Awful statement and I cannot continue to support the club after this. I’ll be asking for a refund on my season ticket.

Absolute sh**e from the club. Wait til after 10 and then say nothing.
As i said whatever we feel as fans, if the club stand by him, then stand by him
Here is something i am writing off the cuff which is far better and the club can have for free (and i wouldnt have signed him)
"BRFC recognises the verdict in the case against Jevani Brown. Whilst the club does not condone violence of any kind, the incident occured when Jevani was not employed by BRFC.
In signing Jevani, we were aware of the accusations and admission of Jevani, but are also aware of Jevani's acceptance of his alcohol issues and working with sporting chance (link to sporting chance)
In light of these circumstances and the work Jevani is putting in to rehabilitate himself, the club fully support him in these efforts and hope the fans will too"

I am unsure overall. I will say this though if we didn’t sign him someone else in our league would and he’d bang a hat trick in against us. I just hope he’s seen to be doing something other than scoring to redeem himself. I don’t think this is as bad as David pipe though.

I don’t know. Yes, it looks bad on the face of it but suffering racist abuse is a strong mitigation in my opinion and Brown’s statement is both contrite and powerful in how it addresses his actions and the action of those that racially abused him. He’s been fined. I think we can move on from this.

Of all the things people expect... a statement from the club to either validate or change their mind on the correctness of the signing is dumb.
We signed a player that is guilty of assault. The level of assault is adjudged by a court punishable by fine. These are the facts.
My personal opinion is that based on the limited information I have I can accept the clubs decision to sign this guy. I don't think the club should preach any view. No one should shame others if they express reasonable uncomfortable-ness with this.
I'm personally for second chances and "not at my club" can't be a thing.
No one is gonna look good from this- but to those glued to the net expecting a BRFC tweet to convince them- go outside and enjoy the sun.

JB will be very pleased. He took what I thought was a risk on Brown avoiding a custodial sentence and now has a decent League 1 footballer on a free contract. For BRFC not so straightforward. The statement just issued is embarrassing. They’ve had plenty of time to have constructed a statement for whatever eventuality the court arrived at and they come up with that. Does it read as expecting a later statement? Or are they thinking Brown’s statement is enough? Do they never learn after the last embarrassing attempt two years ago? They would have been better waiting instead of releasing that inept statement.
They will be hoping Brown starts well and scores goals and hope the majority of fans will forgive him. Club is in a difficult position I think but probably of their own making. I hope the guy shows genuine contrition to what he’s pleaded guilty to and that his actions show genuine remorse. Wael will need to show some leadership considering what he said about anyone being found guilty of violence being sacked.
UTG!

Javani's words speak volumes.
If people want to brag about their support of BLM, taking the knee, Kick It Out etc, but then get their knickers in a twist about incidents like this, just highlights the hypocrisy and virtue signaling in modern day society, not just Football.

For the last 3 years we've had riots all over the globe, marches, demonstrations, protests, taking of the knee left, right and centre, in this City we've had statues pulled to the ground and chucked in the river, buildings, schools, streets having their names changed, we've seen scandals regarding the Royal Family, Harry & Meaghan all over the media. The virtue signalling over that time has been relentless. Now this really shows the sheer hypocrisy of it all!

Although unable to read all of the young mans statement yet,( i may be a twit but not a twitter!) what i have read gives me hope that he is determined to learn from the events and i hope that Rovers as a club and we as fans can help him . although things have improved over recent years re racism and the like, there is no doubt it still exists and young men like him occasionally suffer unimaginable insults and abuse, it is ,imho, not surprising that there comes a time when enough is enough and a reaction is forthcoming. As he says there are two parties involved in the case and i hope the other party also learns from the event. Fans may scoff at the idea but i believe our current manager is well qualified to help the young man through this and instead of condemning the club for their stance can we not praise them for giving someone a chance? they may have been clumsy in the way they have gone about things but i for one am quite proud that i support a club that is prepared , after considering all the circumstances, to give some one a chance, the player in return could well repay that faith by giving his all for the club on and off the field, i wish him and his family well in their endeavours, good luck, up the Rovers.

In some ways I find the clubs lack of response more offensive and in just posting Jevani's own words I think they are letting him down and posting it after 10 o'clock is a joke and clearly done deliberately I will give people a chance if they are remorseful and want to better themselves. The club arent going to win either way, but they have acted like it is something they just want to disappear rather than address it. Again regardless of any of our opinions on signing him, I think given the mention of Jevani's alcohol issues and him getting help, the club could at least publicly support their employee (as i am sure they are privately) through the issues. 2 mins thought to write something a bit considered, thats all the above took me, but its okay, here are some photos of Ollie with Rovers players
