Met Chris when I was a youngster through family friends and found him a really good guy.

Very sad news, Chris was a neighbour of mine in Nailsea for several years and during that time was diagnosed with Parkinson’s. Without doubt a great footballer in his time RIP.

Just notice "RIP Chris" was trending on my Twitter feed and was a bit shocked it was Chris Garland as I didn't realise he was now in his 70's.
One of Bristol great footballers even if he played for the wrong club.
RIP

Remember going over to Ashton for his Testimonial as a 10 year old as it was a chance to see Man United.
Think it ended 3-3.
R.I.P. Chris

This is terribly sad news. I was there that day he got down on his knees and headed the ball in.
Believe we lost 6-1 to the red heathens. I remember feeling very envious as a kid at the time that Rovers didn't have a Chris Garland in our side.
Rest in peace Chris, you might of been a red, but you were a legend and I'll always remember you as exactly that.

Never forget his goal for City against us at Ashton Gate in the short lived Anglo Scottish Cup it was the sixth goal in a 6 1 hammering. He was on the floor and left up to head in from two yards out in the goal at the open end. Can still see his smiling face as he taunted us gasheads behind the goal. The same goal net Gary Smart netted that late wonder goal on New Years day 1987.
RIP a talented footballer who was a quality striker for both City and Chelsea.

Yes, I was watching from the East End that day. ( It’s a long story). But Chris Garland was some player, believe he used to live in the flats behind the Dolman. I love it when a local lad makes it to the top. RIP Chris Garland.
