The reason he was training with us was because he was already in the area keeping up his fitness levels and knows Antony Evans from their Everton and England youth days together. JB was hardly going to say he's training with us as we're due to announce new owners who want to make a statement signing once the deals ratified by the EFL? Unless he's got property on the Algarve then it seems a strange place to choose to get fit. Lots of clubs pre season there, so he could possibly train with a few. |

In the off season players often go out to Portugal or more frequently places like Dubai to get fit (and enjoy an end of season break!). Personally when I think of what defines an “x factor” player I think of goals, so whoever this player turns out to be I’m expecting a fairly well established striker

Tom Davies could be an option, he might not fancy going abroad, we know he doesn’t fancy staying at Everton playing 10 games of a relegation scrap. Expect he’ll end up in the championship and it won’t be until the end of the window so he can get the best deal from a desperate team that hasn’t performed well. If that doesn’t materialise why couldn’t he be ours? Rovers missed out. The X factor could have been Jason Cummings. Unfortunately left the Central Coast Mariners to play in India (shakes head). Rovers probably couldn't afford him anyhow. The same Jason Cummings that struggled in League One a few seasons ago? Yes, that Jason Cummings who was enticed to come to Australia and turned it around. Got a spot in the Australian world cup squad. Surprised he's gone to India. He's better than that. A couple of our players from last year have gone to Championship sides.
And Scotland seems to be a stepping stone for some. Apart from the one who went from us straight to Newcastle Utd.
I see Portsmouth have picked up Yengi, but apart from that top A league players are looking at Championship clubs.

It will be interesting to see how Yengi does at Pompey. There is a lad over in Australia called Noah Botic who I'm familiar with. Predictably dubbed "The Next Mark Viduka", he caught my eye a few years ago when he scored goals in the U17 world cup and then subsequently trialled at Manchester United. He eventually moved to Hoffenheim in Germany but is back now with Western Sydney in the A League. Not sure what the talk is about him over there, but would be one I'd be keeping an eye on. |
