Was expecting to sit in comfort in Portsmouth's renovated Away Stand. As a 70 year I prefer sitting to standing these days. Arriving at the ground I found that safe standing barriers were in place and I couldn't see anyone sitting to watch the game so I had to stand as well. However I thought that it worked well. The atmosphere was definitely better with people standing and during breaks in play and at half time I did have the opportunity to sit down and rest.
Interested to hear other peoples thoughts.

I would imagine an unwritten rule might be those likely to want to sit should be in the front five rows. Those with kids behind them(if kids standing) then the general standing fans.

Noticed a lot of people with beer/cider down in their spaces. Is this allowed now with safe standing, like in places in Europe, or was this just bad stewarding by Pompey haha?

Stewards didn’t seem too bothered about people walking back into the stand with a beer! Not sure they’d been briefed on the laws! The beers and safe standing together gave it abit of a German football feel!

from what I witnessed at the family/friendly game and last season our stewards could learn a lot from both Portsmouth & Swansea stewarding, no long queues caused by over zealous pat downs bag searches, a female turnstile only seeing absolutely no use whilst the queue on adjacent turnstiles goes back almost to the ticket office as happened last game of season, no over the top ranting as witnessed over mothers with buggies (family fun day and all), why is it our lot seem to be so over the top yet for both games mentioned above no issues other than a friendly smile and help if required?

There will be some fans who physically cannot stand the whole game so there still needs to be some rows or a section where the seats are permanently down. If we ever do get a new stadium would be good to have the stands behind the goals with safe standing. Then those who want to sit will have other areas of the stadium to choose from.

The worst stewarding I've seen recently was the Marcus Stewart charity game. Not sure who they had in but had the biggest patting down I've had anywhere. East terrace bar was V.I.P. so was told by the doorman to go back to the Thatchers. He didn't seem to realise my ticket had already been scanned and was oblivious to the fact no one knew the bar was private until it was too late. Probably a relation of Ronnie Butler (You need to be a certain vintage to understand that) The fact it was a charity game made it easy to just shrug shoulders and tut

With all the recent excitement and fan ambition soaring high something crossed my mind.
If and its an ambitious if , rovers shocked the division and got promoted we would have a problem.
Assuming the south stand is built by then we will still have 3 sides of the ground that is mostly standing. This isnt allowed in the championship beyond 3 seasons.
Do we think the quickest solutions might involve much of the terracing become safe standing ?

Do we think the quickest solutions might involve much of the terracing become safe standing ? Safe standing would still basically mean all-seater as I think the UK requirements are still 1:1 ratio seated/safe-standing. So even if the current terraces were suitable (or easily convertible) to seating with safe standing it would be a massive reduction in capacity. If we were to go up we have the advantage that (*fingers crossed*) we're already 12 months into planning a new stadium that meets all the criteria. So unless that falls through quickly we would have a big window without worrying about upgrading the Mem....
