www.bbc.com/sport/football/66778293I was at Wigan away when the match was called off before a ball was kicked at around 2.45pm. Some stormed their stands in protest.. I was also at Leyton Orient, it was probably just Orient in those days, and Bradford (we had just got into the bit of road leading to the stadium) that were both called off close to kick off because of frozen pitches/snow in 90s. Anyone done an away abandonment? Hartlepool at home doesn't count. Nor does the extra watering of our pitch gate that wound mad dog up! Wycombe lightning is all I can think of...?

Back in the early 90βs car load of us went up to Notts County, Tuesday night, watering down all the way up. Coming up to the ground wondered why all was in darkness, spoke to one of the local constables who informed us the game had been called off, many expletives fired off π, donβt you start he says, we got a couple of coach loads kicking off round the corner π Ironically, that night Jason Turner was with us, their late CEO π

I was at the Leyton Orient game. They took our money at the turnstile at 2.45pm and when we got in we could see the Leyton players having what looked like a training session at the far end. Word went round that the game had been called off before 2.30pm. They then made us queue up for over an hour to get a refund from a single window.

Think it must of been in the seventies , but in 2 consecutive seasons, I went to Luton on the football specials and both games were called off! Seem to remember, the train actually got to luton station on one occasion, before turning around and going straight back to Bristol π

What a journey back to Bristol.

Couldn't be arsed to wait for a refund. I went down the other route of applying by post. About 6 weeks later I got sent my refund. Not a cheque (note to younger readers, this was a means of payment like a paper currency but easier to forge) but in fact a postal order (note to younger readers, this was like cash but you had to give cash to get one and it was available only from the post office). (Note to younger readers, the post office was like a bank except open on occasional afternoons and ruined peoples' lives in a different way). I think my postal order from Orient was for Β£7.50. Can't believe that I was prepared to pay that much.

Didnt a game away at Plymouth get postponed, possibly boxing day? I remember just missing the turn off at an M5 junction when it was announced on the radio (before mobiles were around!!). Not sure what year exactly

Back in 84 I got the train from Lincoln to Bradford for a 3pm ko,weather pretty decent. Walked on my own up to the ground which by now was in the middle of a blizzard, and unbelievable the game was called off about 14.30. I didn't even meet another rovers fan,but I was approached by this lad about my age,me thinking here we go trouble. But thankfully couldn't have been further from the truth,he took my up the road to a local, staffed by very attractive topless ladies, had a couple of beers and was back in Lincoln by 5pm,I often wonder if that lad died in the Bradford fire the next year, tragic day that.

We had one called off on NYD once home to Torquay due to rain in maybe 2001 or 2002. Thousands had already arrived at the Mem, we turned up and they were all streaming out of the ground heading home less than an hour before KO

Not quite the same as getting called off on the way, but the fairly recent Swindon away game. Forgot it was an early kick off, so with that, and traffic, got there 20 mins late. Then that biblical rain at half time, got soaked, and that was it, game off!
Also recall an Oxford away game (late 90s? early 2000s?). Early kick off. Went by train and already in the pub when news came through that the pitch was frozen. Think a group of lads then got off the train at Swindon on the way back and caused a fair amount of trouble at a Swindon pub (they were playing later).

Also, I know this was a home game but recall a game against city being called off as we were driving there. I was only 14 at the time and gutted as it was going to be my first derby game. This was early 1990. The game was rearranged for 2nd of May and the rest is history!

Not sure what year exactly We had driven the scenic wet route over Dartmoor. Were not far from the ground when the news came over the radio. Carried on anyway and got to the stewards at the car park. When they said the game was off I said. 'We know, we were so close when we heard we thought we'd get to the ground before turning back'

There was an Exeter night game a few years ago as well. I think that the game was posponed an hour before kick off but we didn't know until we got to the gates and found security men telling us that the game was off.

20 odd years ago, 5 of us left Bristol in the pouring rain for an away cup fixture at Gillingham. (Absolute shithole, so don't know what possessed us).
Loads of calls were made firstly to BRFC and then Gillingham about whether the game was on, as there was standing water on the M4 and Noah had overtaken us twice. Game on was the response each time.
Got to a pub near to the ground and around 1.30, the landlord approached us and in a fit of genius, given three were wearing quartered shirts, asked us "Are you Rovers supporters? If so, the game has just been called off"
All that way to the hovel of England for nothing. We got tanked in the rearranged game too (not that we went). Godawful place, manky fans, locals who make Mancunians seem welcoming and a town that makes Luton look like paradise.

I was on Blue Bell Hill when I heard it was off, the annoying thing about this was we were in the hat for the 4th round and drew Arsenal away

Even the asylum seekers turn back when they get there

How about not postponed Boxing day 1990. Brighton away. Should have been called off but never was. Whether this was so that fans xmas plans weren't affected I do not know. Delay getting there when a tree went through the coach window. Vaughan Jones launching balls towards the corner flag held up by the water and Tony Pounder chasing them...... often falling over and sliding off the pitch. Remember Jones specifically looking for dry/wet patched in the warm up. We won 1-0. Good day out even if the game was a lottery
