I’m just back from watching Quansah help Liverpool get into the quarterfinals of the Caraboa Cup. In terrible conditions he did very well. He looked comfortable on the ball and played out from the back on several occasions with good passes. AFCB not the best PL side but he handled everything they threw at him tonight and despite losing AFCB played very well. So well done to him. Keeping to the OP, the loan with us last season was beneficial to everyone, us, Liverpool and Quansah.
UTG!

I though Quansah was terrible in defence and was at fault for many goals conceded. It wasn't a coincidence that his arrival coincided with a terrible run of form in the 2nd half of the season.

Was that the period when we just threw a bunch of 20 years old kids together put them in front of a goalkeeper they had never met before and expected them to work out how to outplay experienced League1 defenders and then blamed them when it didn't work out?

Yes, exactly. All while thinking the manager doing that was a genius.

Don’t be daft, of course it was a learning experience with him, he’s 20 years old. If he was as good as some seem to think he should be he probably wouldn’t have been allowed to come to us anyway. Inexperienced perhaps, “terrible” no. Best not turn it into a Barton thing, it really isn’t. I was just commenting on a youngster who was with us and who had a very good game last night and has now developed into a player who Juergen Klopp trusts to play for the Liverpool first team. Well done to Quansah. I would suggest stories like this make it more likely that we will be trusted with the best youngsters from the top clubs. But I understand many on here probably don’t think that. 🤔 UTG!

I presume you mean Balcombe, Coburn, Bogarde and Quansah. Balcombe I agree was unnecessary but the other 3 were good. Bogarde was excellent and we wanted him back. Coburn has gone back to Middlesbrough and has been a regular starter or substitute so good enough for the Champioship and Quansah a regular part of Liverpools match day squad. Pretty good I’d say. But obviously not everyone agrees. 😉 UTG!

loans are not my cup of tea - benefits appear to be that there is a remote chance you get someone like Anderson that is instrumental in helping us get promotion and you get to see a special player pull on the blue and white quarters.
also its a try before you buy situation like Taylor who I think is probably our best defender, without his loan it wouldn't have happened.
Most loans though are a result of teams overloading their squads and in reality many loans will never get a game for their parent club, these players are already surplus by the time they get to us, if they arent upto it we then reloan or sign new players and a yearly rebuild takes place which is a bit risky/depressing.
i'd rather have a player like Hoole that is ours, gets games and develops and we have potential to sell at a profit. Of course the risk is that he doesn't get better but most loans dont work out long term for us anyway.

Looking at our previous promotions in recent years, quality loans made a huge difference. Chris Lines in ‘15 springs to mind.

Balcombe, Bogarde and Quansah. If we were in a relegation battle, we would have been sent down after that January 'strengthening'. Bogarde started to get to grip with the physicality and pace of the game with about 6 games left last season.

What the clips don’t show is how awful the weather conditions on the south coast were last night, which made his performance even more impressive esp second half when he played against the wind and rain. The wind was a very strong left to right as we look and driving rain for at least three quarters of the match. Being a cup match there were lots of different people around us ST holders and I had two City 1982 fans next to me! We were chatting about stuff and they were impressed by the number 78. When I told them we’d had him on loan last season they were even more surprised. Anyway, he was excellent last night. I appreciate we’re more concerned with what he was like with us and there are differing opinions. But I bet Klopp was pleased he’d gone out on loan, gained experience and came back ready to be part of match day squads. That can only be good for us whatever your feelings about loans are. UTG!

Taylor and Thomas are two of our best players IMO and have signed after loan deals. Clearly beneficial

Nobody has a crystal ball, but what do you think will happen to say Harvey Vale?
1) No chance of playing for Chelsea
2) Very Surprised if he gets a Championship move
3) Would you want him as "our player" next year for a fee?
4) Alternative he comes back on another years loan.

If the loan system did not exist would Prem clubs still sign as many young players as they do now?

If the loan system did not exist would Prem clubs still sign as many young players as they do now? No ideal what clubs like Chelsea are aiming to do. They signed that Ukrainian lad for £90m looks no better than Vale. Did they even look in their academy. Mudryk is early 20s not the finished article, surely they would have already had an option like this in their massive academy?

And i cant see him dropping £20k a week and depending who comes in will determine he he stays past Christmas!
