Wow, 8 years ago this man was playing non league football in the Vanarama with a certain Bristol Rovers......gained a promotion and then the world was his Lobster, today he scores his first Premiership goal for a Luton 2-1 win at Everton, my god I'm so proud this lad played in the Blue & White Quarters.
And I'm sure the Welsh are very proud aswell, what a story to tell his Grandkids

As young men (still lads almost) Tom Lockyer and Ollie Clarke stopped and talked to me in The Mem car park as I’d just collected my Wembley tickets. I asked Ollie if he thought he was going to make the starting team and we had a discussion with Tom adding it was up to DC. When I said he’d be starting as DC’s blue eyed boy Ollie had a good laugh and said “see, everyone knows”. Tom was properly flushed. Ollie added to me “Tom deserves to start week in week out”. Spoken by a team mate whose opinion was no doubt valued (and I believed). Always a great worker and a terror off the ball. Always a Gashead too! Well done Tom.

I saw Keith Brookman tweeted yesterday that Lockyer has now scored in England's top five divisions. Can't imagine many players have done that, let alone defenders!

Now that was a goal from a high press.... a very high press. Defending 1 yard from the opponents goal line.
Regarding scorers in all divisions I see Robert Earnshaw has a hat trick in all 4 top divisions, FA cup, league cup and international.
Jimmy Wallis and Steve Finnan have scored in 5 divisions. Both defenders which is a surprise

What I find funny is there were so many that didn't rate him and would often slate him, time to eat some humble pie

The boy done good, he was solid defender for us but is much, much more than that now, the moves have done him good and have made him a much better all round player, he has obviously listened and learn 't to maximum effect and is fully deserving of the plaudits now coming his way, a fine player and even finer young man .

I know Tom's family and I told his Dad that there was an appreciation thread on here for Tom. First thing he said was "I bet that TBone isn't one of them, he always said Tom was useless". I think his family are very proud, particularly wearing the armband. You get picked to play because you are good footballer. Being picked to be captain says a lot about the man. And DC made him captain of Rovers at 21. |
