Love watching our Boys at the moment - but something hit me the other week and has stayed a nagging thought in my head so i thought i might seek the counsel of our Forum Members... ( I have a few of these so if this one gets into good discussion I might post one or two more, If not I will stay stewing on them)
So i mentioned watching our boys ..... but they are not our boys are they really ?
Every week four sometimes five of them are loanees from other clubs and genuinely only one of those ( Ryan Woods) could become a permanent next season. Still great to see them in the Quarters but if every L1 and L2 club are doing it that's over 200 opportunities being denied to up and coming young academy lads trying to make their way -
Oh I know that these Academy lads are being loaned out further down the pyramid so again a further blocker for young raw talent to emerge.
Some of the L1 and L2 clubs have made a real industry of the loan opportunity and gaining success on the back of it - ( Some claimed we only went up because of Elliot Anderson) but where is the long term sustainability when doing that. Argyle have had Finn Azaz now for three seasons !!
Are clubs allowed too many loanees ? Should loanees be representing England only to truly develop that talent pool ? Should a player only be allowed one loan club per season and its for the season or a maximum of three months ? It doesn't feel right that loaned players can define whether a season has been a success or not.
It feels wrong that just under half of your team each week could really not be your players ... Yes nice to see talented players at a lower level but at what economic cost longer term.
Thought gratefully received on this one ...
