As me & my wife were settled down in bed early this morning (apologies to Irene), my mind went over the disappointing RWC Pumas vs Kiwis semi last night. A few times during the match there was a very clear and sharp Spanish-sounding trumpet blast, which drew a cheer from the crowd.
This made me think back to Eastville when there was a bugler who would play the US Cavalry 'Charge' when big Jim Eadie lined up to take a goal kick. Of course we all shouted 'charge' too "!
This then made me think back to Tote End chants, and up popped this one (with apologies to Jim Reeves):
" I hear the sound
Of distant bums,
Over there, over there.
And do they smell ?
Like f*%^ing hell.
Over there, over there".
Jim Eadie is probably my favourite ever Gas goalie.
Could we have a trumpeter / bugler again ? (But leave the drums and school bells behind please. We don't want to be Pompey or Citeh).
