The thing that made me change my mind about Barton is he's tactically inept.
Chops and changes every week. Impulsive, rash and can't set a team up. Few of his subs work.
He's lucky that he's got a few contacts in the game and he's persuaded Wael to give him a few bob.
There are better managers who could get a lot more out of this side.
There's people already claiming that this squad is sh**, it really isn't, we ought to be doing a lot better.
The squad isn’t sh** but it’s never been as good as people believed. With no injuries, Belly back in goal and proper tactics/coaching it's not that far away.
But it requires more thought beyond 'Let's add another 34 year old ex championship player and Chelsea youngster in January' to unlock it. On the evidence we've seen, Barton's not capable of it.

I disagree. I think it’s a squad with too many injury prone players and what I call “1 in 4” players. You can’t carry this and be a top 6 side imo

I’m with you, someone like Nathan Jones, a decent man would talk to this squad and get them playing happy. I also think the opposite man, Warnock overnight would start at the back, stop all this tippy tappy sh**, get Belshaw back in goal and make us hard to beat. Spot on post by you and Gasdust, anyone but Barton now could do better with this squad.

Look at what Cogs did at Oxford away with this terrible lot as caretaker, Reilly and Jaks upfront?! www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/46656432I’m telling you, anyone could do better than this idiot in charge with this squad!

It's difficult to see how many could do any worse, that's for sure. Often you look around and think "what's available", but there's actually a good few out there right now I would bite your hand off for. Barton is a L2 manager at best - that's his level. Yes tactically it's probably still beyond him, but his contacts for players at that level get him across the line. At L1, they get you a decent enough squad, but without the tactical nous you'll get found out - as he has been.

I’ve got to be honest I’ve never liked Barton for off the pitch reasons but I still don’t think there’s footballing merit to get rid of him yet.
Injuries are hampering us and we don’t quite have the cutting edge up front to convert the chances we are creating. This has probably damaged our confidence, resulting in a sub par performance tonight.
We’ve got home games coming up and a few games in hand. Marquis and Hunt will hopefully be back from injury, Woods will return from his suspension, which will improve the squad massively. Maybe Barton will give Belly another chance to redeem himself as well.
Re-assess closer to January, budgets and expectations are high for this season so clearly being 16th in the league won’t be acceptable by then, but there is still plenty of this season left to turn things around.

Tbf Axe, those are all good points regarding the squad. But do we have a manager capable of doing anything with them? I haven't seen evidence of it. No plan B - barely a plan A. Zero game management ability. Poor subs. The list goes on. A decent manager and I'd have faith something could be salvaged when we get those players back. But I really cannot see Barton doing anything worthwhile with them

Just listened to our esteemed leader on the radio.
Is there any need for the manager of the team and as it stands the only person at the club who talks to be needlessly rude about another manager?
You’d not get away with this in any other walk of life, it’s a dreadful look and isn’t doing anyone any favours.

But I really cannot see Barton doing anything worthwhile with them I'm similarly frustrated by the tactical decisions, selections and game management that we've had so far this season RD. The case is certainly building against him.
I'm just trying to remove my dislike of the man and view him like any other manager who's been in charge of this club.
We've had two good seasons of achieving promotion and consolidating ourselves in the division above.
Do I think he's the messiah who's going to sort out all his shortcomings and instigate a miraculous turn around towards the top end of the table? Probably not.
However IMO he's earnt the right to have more time to try and turn this squad around. Tonight was probably the first game I've seen us in this season, where the football on display was poor.

I know all clubs have to contend with injuries but Rovers seem to have a large proportion of players absent throughout the seasons. Surprising as the game is nowhere near as physical like 20 plus years ago! Also, we were told lnjuries would be greatly reduced once training at the Quarters.

Fair enough mate, respect your views. I don't share the same optimism (shock lol) but time will tell....

I’ve just listened to Steve Evans and I actually felt sad because of what has become of our club. He spoke well of us as a club and Barton and that scumbag, absolute scumbag resulted in calling him fat and weeble.
I can’t wait till this arsehole is gone now, I genuinely feel sorry for Steve Evans and our club.
If you are reading this our new owners, please please act and put a decent human being in charge of our team.
Someone’s appearance should not and never be mentioned, if he said ginger, someone’s skin colour, he’d be questioned and probably even sacked but it’s ok, he’s fat.
Evans said at the end, we are great fans, make a great atmosphere, I despise Barton.

It’s unacceptable, my 12 year old nephew asked me after the Peterborough game why is he like he is re the Luke Thomas interview.
He’s vile, he’s uncouth, he masks it all but then it comes out, it’s really is appalling behaviour.

Tbf to Steve Evans , he's always said that about the gas . Complimenting our support and the like , not just kideology neither ( why would you after the game?) Not heard JB's comments , and to be honest dont want to.....he does the talk ( in a French accent sometimes ) , now he needs to do the walk or get told to walk....

I just don’t see how anyone can truly believe that this is a manager who’s going to take us to the top ends of the division. If anything instead of getting better we are on a steady decline and getting worse, this has been the case for 10 months now. I think we have an okay squad but I don’t think it’s as good as we have been led to believe but it’s better than where we are after 13 games.I’m Funnily enough, looks like the players are giving less since LT was ceremoniously thrown under the bus (again). Wouldn't be surprised if the players have had enough of him. That’s a good point RD. Watching tonight I thought the players looked lethargic, almost as if they had no confidence that they could win. Almost as if they weren’t listening to him. They may be just completely p***** off with him. I hadn’t linked that with how he treated Luke Thomas….again. You may well be right. Whatever, everything seemed to be meh tonight, the team, the dugout, even the celebration with the goal. A big few games coming up. UTG!

Yes, that’s about where I am. But more performances like tonight’s and he’ll be lucky to survive. JB is fortunate that Wael or whoever are more tolerant than other owners. It reads as if the ex-Lincoln boss was sacked for singling out players publicly, something JB has done on a few occasions. I’ve always thought results will determine JBs future and the equaliser will have given him a bit more time, but only a bit. The next game will be very important. UTG!

Axe, I just don’t see how anyone can say there is no footballing merit to sack him. It was atrocious tonight, no matter how you dress it up or blame the ref. He is talking about how the ref didn’t give the foul on cox and the penalty but Stevenage should have had a penalty too when Finley dragged down Reid (I think) but no one is talking about that. We were absolutely awful all night and quite frankly deserved nothing. The chances we created didn’t trouble the keeper at all. When it comes to the squad, he has a squad of players and all of them should be good enough to compete at this level. 75% of that starting 11 have either played with us in that division or played at a higher level than L1. No matter what team he has picked this year we have won 4 out of 13. It’s just not good enough for the money he has spent. As for the squad he’s signed, he’s spent money on some great players that can play if they aren’t broke or suspended but he signs the ones with poor injury and disciplinary records and then everyone is surprised when we are bereft through injury and suspensions. The final thing, utterly classless on the radio calling Evans a fat weeble. Yes Evans is a Banned word, he always has been, but Evans has won more than Barton with less money and is higher in the league with a smaller budget, I think JB is looking much more the arsehole tonight than Evans.

Decent individuals but a very average team. Limited pace and mobility, sick notes all over the shop, an aging squad and a reliance again on loans in key positions. Yet another rebuild awaits at the end of this season. Definitely not. On paper most expensive squad in our history. Most expensive back room team in our history. A good manger will get results with that team.

We’re constantly trying to play a style of football that the players aren’t comfortable with. Collins game is all about pace and direct running but I can’t remember us playing with much pace or directness this season other than the Wigan game , Port vale and the odd 20 mins here and there. And I’m not talking about hoofing it aimlessly I’m talking about tempo. You can still play nice football if you move the ball quicker , ok you won’t make as many successful passes over 90 minutes but the passes you make will create better opportunities particularly in the lower leagues and that’s what our “Premier league” manager can’t grasp. Wasn’t there tonight but generally our football sends me to sleep. We’re a crap watch , I’m not impressed by having twice as much possession as the opposition like some are but I like to see us create clear cut chances by moving the ball in to situations quickly and putting the opposition defenders out of their comfort zone facing their own goal and making them rattled. That’s what works at this level. Barton needs to understand that or we’ll be closer to the bottom four than the top 6 at the end of the season.
