So most know my feeling about Barton, I'll have him back in a shot Anyway I haven't read the whe thread but QPR has sacked Ainsworth, what's people thoughts on him? His football isn't pleasing on the eye but if you look at his record at Wycombe with probably the budget he had to work then he did an amazing job there and ok they did come back down from the championship but the fact they gave it a good go and it went to the final day was an amazing effort. Only thing is that is he one of these managers that will only ever be known for his record at Wycombe while all the other clubs he didn't have any success?? Will find out soon I guess. Also could he work with the current squad?? Deffo not in my top 5 but at the same time I would rather him than some of the other names on the list. whatever happens I want a manager that will want to keep all our players that's for sure

Thats why even though people like Gary Rowett was mentioned his style would not suit the current team and that is also why I don't think it will be Monk. But at the same time maybe the person will be flexible in his ideas and/or the board's vision mentioned by the owner might be totally different to what Wael wanted to see us playing or it doesn't even come down to the style of football.

There’s a lot who have contracts ending this season. The Barton factor certainly attracted several of them. Will also be interesting to see what the parent clubs of our loan players think of the change of circumstances …I suspect most of the deals include the opportunity to review in January, one indication of what they might be thinking will be if they allow us to field them in the FA Cup, Woods will be serving the last game of his suspension anyway but if Chelsea, Brentford or Villa do consider there is potential to recall and reloan they may feel a non cup tied asset will be easier to relocate.

Appointing Garner when we were in a play off position ended up being a disaster because he has a different way of playing therefore wanted completely different players. That’s why Maher should have stayed in charge back then. Of course a new manager is likely to have his own style but hopefully one that’ll only want a few additions in January rather than a complete overhaul.

How about Chris Martin?

Giving it some more thought... That interview was really good talking about the match. Chris Martin has a lot of experience working with successfull managers, had promotions from league 1 and Championship to the Prem. Has been in the Championship for a long time so knows the standards we need to meet. Knows the dark arts. Could probably work with the existing staff. His character seems confident in a battle against anyone, serious, focused and yet also humble. He is also local which I think is better than having a manager based far away. In the past he's had run-ins with JB but was big enough to put differences aside.

The managerial merry go round has properly begun! That’s Gas, Teds, QPR and Derby in a few days! I can’t decide if I’d like us to appoint quickly or take our time and give Mangan/Whelan a few games first? New names being added to the list every day! UTG

UTG I think we need to be proactive but not rush things, and make a knee jerk appointment, this is an important appointment as Joe was liked by some of the fan base, he divided opinion more than anyone previously. Think we have safe hands in the role, Glenn whelan reminds me of Gerry Francis in terms of football experience, I am slightly nervous of the boards interviewing skills, I know it sounds bizarre but Ollie as an interview advisor would be beneficial in my humble opinion. I only want someone who is really enthused by the project, and not some journeyman.

Who really cares if players decide to move on or not in the summer, footballs moved on from when players used to stay at the same club for all their careers, although unless JB gets another job in L1 wherever they go they'll be working for a new manager. If we're pushing for a play off spot by January I doubt the loan players will be looking for new L1 clubs. If we're not perhaps the new manager can find better players to replace them.

I can't see why Eustice would even consider the Rovers job, when he's proven he can manage in the Championship. Eustace is hardly proven at Championship level though, only managed for 63 games at Birmingham (33.3% win rate) and 7 as caretaker at QPR (28.5% win rate), otherwise 103 games at Kidderminster in the National League (53.4% win rate)
