Following on from 2nd May 1990's post in the MDT, I think this is an interesting question: who are your ideal starters for centre midfield?
When Woods joined I had very high hopes, he seemed to move the ball around really well. Since he has come back though he looks erratic and uncontrolled. Perhaps he needs some more time to settle in, but I am not sure.
I really rate Bogarde so he is a first choice for me. Finley is hot and cold, but has heart while Evans is playing great but he is better more advanced.
So I guess that leaves Ward who has impressed, so him paired with Bogarde for me when everyone is fit.

I think Collins needs a rest and to earn his place by coming on as a sub and making an impact.

Probably Bogarde edging out Woods at the moment for me but I wish he’d be a bit stronger in possession at times and take a bit more care with his passing. Evans has enough athleticism and physicality to play box to box as a number 8 in a 4-2-3-1 formation. I’m not convinced it’s necessary to have two sitting midfielders Having Evans a bit deeper allows us to get Collins, Brown and Thomas in the starting line up with Sinclair and Vale as good impact attacking options. |

Finley and woods not quick enough to close down, unfortunately think thier legs have gone. They are both lacking in size and get bullied by stronger more physical players. They are both great with the ball at at thier feet though. Evans, Mccormick and Bogarde all different types of player in thier own right but think we miss a Rossiter type defensive midfielder. One thing I've noticed is all our midfielders are easily dispossessed by the opposition but it takes 3 of ours to win the ball back, none of our midfielders are good at winning the ball or doing the dirty work. Too many conductors and not enough water carriers...

This is true - maybe Woods just needs more minutes. The fact Mangan keeps starting him might suggest he thinks this is the case. |
