As that "gap" was left in the south to help bind the south stand to a east stand development i would guess the following. The current east stand will just be cloned either side. New seating will blend it in. The difference will be access into the stand from seating and not replicating the existing steps. The current steps will go with new access into the stand created. The current south stand will continue around the corner to mirror the south west seating. The terrace will then be covered in seating all the way to the deadball line near the Thatchers end. would seating on the East Terrace be covered by the East Stand Roof?

It's usually standard practice to have a pre planning application meeting with the planners for any major development, f or some odd reason somebody at the club decided that one wasn't warranted for the South Stand and we all know that didn't go well, meaning we eventually had to resubmit the planning application. and you know this as fact ?

It's pretty clear we won't be having a new East stand. The owner has already specifically said he plans to develop the south and north sides of the East stand as stage 2, so it's not going to be knocked down.

Does anyone know if we are going to try any "safe standing" anywhere in the ground?

Disagree completely. Both Universities currently have students living up to an hour outside the city. So has demand really increased what seems like six-eight times in the last 10 years...? It's an honest question, were there a lot looking for closer housing in 2014 or has demand really increased so sharply in the last decade? There's a lack of housing generally in the city. UWE are currently putting the finishing touches to another 900 rooms on campus, it doesn't really touch the sides. Bristol currently has a huge issue and is running buses to and from the likes of Newport every day. If Rovers were to include student accommodation within any new build stands I'd hope we'd retain at least a percentage of ownership.

The owner also said we were going for the Premiership. It would be sensible to knock the stand down and remove the terracing and build from pitch level up - like anyone else would do. We aren't moving from the Mem, ever, it's time to accept that. Give ourselves a chance of a bright future where we are by developing a proper football stadium, that could be expanded if ever required.. Even if it takes 5-10 years to finish the lot, do each stand properly.

I would like us to potentially go for something similar to St Pauli's Haupttribune. The Main Stand includes boxes, The Ballsaal (a large area for Conferences, Dinners, Trade Fairs etc), Changing Rooms (built into the corner with the Sudcurve), Media Centres, a daycare centre, 36 corporate boxes and has a seated capacity of c6,500. The stand has a depth of roughly 22m which, is pretty much the same of the current East Stand and terrace (including the flat area at the top of the terracing). It's height would also be similar to the current East Stand. This would pretty much fulfil all Rovers needs from a stand with regard to spaces and facilities to be used by the club on non-matchdays as well. I am begging us to do things properly.

It is a fact, as he said it... regardless it was touge in cheek. We are so far behind even competing in league 1 now as other clubs are year and years ahead with their ground and likely training facilities...just look at bottom 4 clubs coming down from Championship as it stands. Also don't forget Wrexham coming the other way. If we don't do things properly we will not compete with these clubs...forget the Championship, we will continue to battle away in bottom half of League 1. Club needs a wake up if thinking doing half a job we will some how end up in the Championship.

Bristol like the rest is on the gravy train for the Asia Market.next few years will need thousands of extra accommodation for the demand

Whilst it would undoubtedly result in a better stand if we were to flatten the East Stand and start again I expect it's a complete no goer.
Some supporters expect us to magic money out of nowhere to pay for this. It could be the difference between getting the equivalent of another south stand and getting a decent stand out of the improvements. If we flattened the east stand we'd lose the entirety of arguably the most important side in our stadium whilst the build takes place, probably one season at best but likely closed to two. The stadium superstore, a fair deal of hospitality, a number of bars all lost. That's revenue lost whilst you do it, plus more having to be built back up when you're done.
Building extensions probably means we sacrifice less in the way of match day capacity whilst it gets built. And if there was one stand I had to keep in a renovation it would be the East Stand. Best views of the stadium. If you didn't get good results out of extensions you'd see a lot more people flattening their homes and rebuilding them instead of buying out and gutting out a doer upper. I don't see how stadiums aren't the same. I still remain to be convinced that extending the East Stand can't end up in a decent result.
Some supporters have been on here suggesting the actual plans involve extend both sides and also backwards as well. If we do that it could end up being an absolute cracker of a stand. Yes it could end up being a Rovers special, but let's wait and see what they propose before we write it off completely. Most were pleasantly surprised with the South Stand plans.

I think the roof actually comes out to the advertising hordings. Doesn't seem like it i guess as its only a small section and weather comes in from the sides.

Agree with pretty much all this. No reason why the middle ground cant give short term viability and longer term revenue generation as well as improved facilities and more seats. And the Mem is never going to be a perfect looking ground, but I dont mind it being still very individual - just much better than it is!

Personally - I'd rather a ground with history and a story to its appearance than a soulless new build bowl that looks pretty much identical throughout. It's hard not to get romantic about your Anfields and Old Traffords. Your Emirates and Etihads are boring in comparison.

If it's not affordable for the current ownership model why did both buy in? If we waited out being bought by someone who's got the funds to build a Wembley in Horfield we'd be waiting for eternity. This is what I mean about unrealistic expectations. I doubt there's many on here who've not waited their lifetimes for a decent stadium for the Gas. Following the bit by bit extension strategy will probably see all of us sitting in a home stadium far better than we ever have before.

With all due respect of the 92 clubs currently in the EFL 76 have built new stands and stadiums since we moved back to Bristol. Failures of board, after board, after board have left us lagging behind with Legoland Chernobyl. Folk need to raise their expectations rather than being so bloody passive.

What's the point of raising our expectations, that's not going to get us a new stadium? How about we should be thankful we're actually getting some improvements at the Mem after 20+ years of waiting?
