Hilarious comment. I've put forward an idea to improve the aesthetics of outside of the ground, its horrible, can't a imagine many think otherwise... But then you hope that the roof of new stands will be green. 🤔 Let's go one better and put up trellis around the back of the stands and plant Honeysuckle and Climbing Roses to keep the locals happy' and improve the insect life etc! I an all seriousness, the trellis was me being flippant, but I am sure something could be done to improve the exterior of the south. I really hope the East and North aren't similar in colour.

To be fair I wouldn't be that happy if my back garden looked out onto the back of that stand but having said that people who live in Alton road did know there was a football stadium next door (and this was probably factored into the price they paid for the house). It was always a possibility this would happen when they bought those houses.

Anyone aware if the club have done/installed anything on the concourse underneath or if they are planning too?
Also no sign of the new screen being installed just yet?

Will be a shame if its the same as last season. Looks like its not open for the friendlies so may have to wait until the 10th to find out.

I know it’s kind of taking the water but the OCS Stand at The Oval looks fantastic with similar done. Would tie in lovely with flower beds behind the goals. i.postimg.cc/zvXw3wcn/IMG-0582.webp

View AttachmentSaw this on Facebook the south stand doesn't look too bad now it's finished? On the south stand, it would be good if the club could have perhaps put a wooden boards on it so it wouldn't look so blue and bit easier on the eye. I know the consultation with local residents about the South Stand was appalling at best, some would say non existent, but surely they could have asked the residents for some input on the colour of the metal cladding. That would at least have given them a little win and feeling that they weren't being run roughshod over completely. That horrible bright blue in the middle of a residential area is shocking. I would be devastated if I lived in one of those houses on Alton Road. Why couldn't it have been a colour to blend in with the surroundings? Also, shame on BCC for granting planning permission for that colour.

Need to see it in real life as not sure the photo looks the same shade as I have seen? At least it aint red (or a big yellow box!)

A cheap furniture monstrosity on the place where I spent my youth? Yes. More so, actually.

Cornflour Blue was on the planning application. Whilst it won't look quite like that in real life, that's what was agreed and approved...

Also, shame on BCC for granting planning permission for that colour. You do realise that every single ' project' the club have introduced have come up with stiff local opposition. This started with Horfield Rose' ' Trash ' ' F.O.M.S ' and ' No to south stand'. Additionally Emma's role as representing the Green party locally is to be an advocate between G.C.C.C and Rovers . As I understand Emma was liaising with local residents via Rovers . I take your point we probably didn't consult as lengthy as we should . However : we need to accept there is a strong prejudice militant local voice which opposes the club and don't like us fans . I simply ask . What club have faced so many organised groups opposed to any developments ?. We need to work with the local groups . But it's not a nice feeling some locals don't like us and are blantly prejudice and discriminatory against the club and fans .

Any logical mind would think that living near a stadium will have all of the potential problems, obstacles or changes you could possibly think of, including renewal or development that might not match the colour of your front door or tower a boundary. I mean, football has only been developing into the giant it is since 1992 when the premier league was created. I wonder if the residents around Old Trafford or Anfield take issue with red cladding?

View AttachmentSaw this on Facebook the south stand doesn't look too bad now it's finished? Its aerial shots like this that make you realise that we could have a lovely kop style stand where the Thatchers is and maximise all the space there so as not to take too much from the car park.

Totally agree and someone researched property locally and found most have moved in the last 10-20 years. Have they a knowledge and awareness of the identity and attachments locals have to the football club? Bristol isn't just for a vocal organised articulate group of pushy people moving in. It is for all Bristolians . I don't envy the local policymakers in trying to agree a solution which works for all. I do ask why would you move near a football stadium in a top 10 large urban city ?.

I do ask why would you move near a football stadium in a top 10 large urban city ?.Exactly this. Any form of city centre/built up areas come with a degree of compromise and that compromise has to be at your own front door rather than what you move next to which has preceeded your purchase. A few years back I saw a lovely house which I really wanted to buy, however it backed onto a recreation ground which had local Rugby and cricket pitches with a pavillion which could also lay on additional events and functions. Rather than buy it and moan about all its activity spoiling the house I concluded that I'd be better off buying something else that didnt have all the risks associated with living next to a recreational facility. Castle Combe had the same issue when they built Yatton Keynall village. All the pricks that moved there whinged all they could hear was racing cars. As a result they introduced a very low DB limit which meant it could hold proper national events such as BTCC, BOSS Formula or anything else which exceeded 101 DB. An absolute own goal which almost made the facility go bankrupt. The race track was built in 1950 and the houses were built in the 90s and you knew what was on your doorstep. How utterly dumb can you be?

Yes, I get all that, and have used the argument about buying a house next to a football ground many times myself. Expansion and development is inevitable. However, I think that bright blue cladding really makes it look like an eyesore. A green/brown colour would have blended in with their gardens and wouldn't have cost Rovers a penny more than the blue stuff. Still, the South Stand was Wael's baby. The new owners say they want to engage with the neighbours and "take them on the journey with them." Let's hope they mean it.
