Very mature. Make sure you put the crayons back in the box when you’re finished with them

Interesting.
People can debate whether Widdrington was the right man and/or young Mr Hedges, but when the new owners talk about club staff this what they mean isn't it. Having these positions within the infrastucture of the club that aren't dictated by the manager

Having these positions within the infrastucture of the club that aren't dictated by the manager It’s an interesting question with no distinct answer. So many of the worlds most successful enterprises are a one-man show. Tesla. Ryanair. The person in the top role has a huge impact on everything, why? Companies are a pyramid of decision making so the quality from the top is enormously important. It’s why they earn stupid money. We might like to think we could do it but few of us can. There’s a Chinese saying I think which goes “A camel is a horse designed by a committee” I.e the camel has the distance, the ability to survive, some speed…it’s like the designers tried to please everyone. A horse is more like a single Vision - get me something which goes well, that’s it. Any dealings you’ve ever had with large, old school industries: Banks, unionised manufacturing, anything in the public sector, will know they move at the speed of a lumbering pregnant cow and the myriad committees and bureaucrats paralyse everything in an orgy of ass-covering and politics. Light, nimble companies with one, or a few influences eat them alive. I’m not convinced on a committee based football club. The wriddlington, Starnes and Garner combo seemed to be the result of that. I know there is much, much ire with Joey and I get that, and there’s incentive there to pretend all was well until he got here but man, come on. It was a complete shambles from top to bottom. That squad was the most insipid, weak and purposeless shower of sh I’ve ever seen. Why? Someone had a job to look at stats and buy players off that. Without having anyone decent to do the qualitative work of understanding the player, their attitude, who’s carrying the dressing room. That’s the peril of moving from a dictatorship to a series of committees. Someone with a spreadsheet and “data” with the inability to look at the wider picture getting involved. I’ve seen these data people ruin several companies and turn a very good operation into a chatbot and outsourced admin conglomerate of sh** because no matter how well you understand data, you need a long career in whichever business you’re in to actually interpret it. Joey at least had that. If you plot wasp stings against ice cream sales you’ll see a correlation. Data analysts running ice cream companies would be aiming to buy and release wasps given a chance. That’s where it can lead!

Is he the son of Sarah the programme seller at Twerton and the Mem gates, who suddenly quit after about 30 odd years service?
It might be a case of 2+2=5 but it adds up how a totally committed Rovers family stop going.

That’s where it can lead! I don't agree. I think we were a goal scorer away from being top 10. That season, we couldn't score. So as soon as you concede you feel that you are going to lose. If Stockley had signed, we may well have stayed up with that squad. All about opinions though. I can't really comment more on this as I will be accused of JB bashing. However, when he came in and said all those things about the previous people in charge and players. He gaslighted lots of the fan base. We had survival in our hands, playing the teams around us and JB went missing.

No we didn't once we lost Nicholson, we were relegated. The fact he's struggled to turn things around this season perhaps suggests he wasn't that good a L1 manager, who knows 🤷

Having these positions within the infrastucture of the club that aren't dictated by the manager Like TW or not the posts he had, Head of Recruitment before becoming DOF are sensible posts giving the club a football infrastructure not dependent on the manager. Under JB, whatever his managerial qualities, it was all about his mates getting jobs which has probably led us to the position we’re in now. The appointment of Kevin B whilst just a coach is a small step in the right direction. And I say all that whilst acknowledging that AM, one of JBs mates, has done very well and will probably be our next manager. That will give the new owners time to put proper club staff in place which are not dependent on the manager. UTG!

Wriddington then brought in his son as a player, which always seemed an odd move. Not sure as a club that we've ever had a DoF/HoR and coaching staff independent from the manager.

Yes, I think you’re right TW was brought in by DC as Head Of Scouting/Recruitment. (2018?) Stayed like that until Tis was appointed in Nov ‘20 and he was made DoF at the same time. (Independent of Tis I would imagine.) Then JB was appointed in Feb ‘21 and it all kicked off. During his time as DoF I think TW would have been as independent’ as any, given JB ignored him! Im sure if the timings are wrong someone will correct it. What I do remember clearly was, everyone (the fans forums, local press, Geoff 20man etc) seeing the appointment of TW favourably and seeing it as a real support to DC and a step forward for BRFC. UTG!

It was never working with Barton, Wael was in Jordan and he came down to see TW and Starnes with Jennings at the Quarters and stormed back up to Liverpool, they never got on. Wael should have listened to Tommy and Martyn then, it would have saved us a relegation and us ever employing him.

It's not like you can forget PT chasing Stockdale for an entire window!
TW & MS were the main culprits for us going from top 6 prospects to relegation contenders. If Maher had replaced GC we might have never suffered relegation.

We needed a CF, he spent the window chasing Jayden Stockley, failed to get him or any striker and signed George Williams, a full back he’d worked with at MKD. Our fate looked desperate. JB came in and accused everyone of negligence and we were completely bu******. UTG!

Thanks for reminding me of this Wareham, it would be cheeky to ask Jamie what went on!
Regardless of TW, that’s two windows where we’ve only had one real target striker and where it’s fallen through, we’ve had no back up, Stockley and JCH. Gone are the days of having 5 targets and Geoff Dunford and Ron Craig driving up the M6 to Rochdale for the 5th choice!
I’m sure Jamie will come back and work for the club again one day, wish him all the best at Aldershot and he will be stronger for what happened to him at the Rovers although no employee should be treated like that.
Imagine if the lad goes onto something big in football, he will one day be able to say what happened and how it helped shape his career.

TW & MS were in control of recruitment and failed hopelessly over the two windows. The fact that they both departed shortly after our relegation suggests I'm not the only one who felt they were reasonable.

TW provided a list based on the managers criteria.
