Penrice left around the same time as well as I remember.
We didn't suffer too much from them leaving though did we?

What an amazing manager Francis was. To lose both Martyn and Penrice and still win the league.
Weirdly, Parkin probably made us even tighter as a team. We were the crazy gang in Division 3 (aka League 1) and didnt care!

No transfer windows back then if I recall. Nope, started 2002 - 2003 season. No signings, except loans, after March/Easter though, wasn't it? I still recall a cut off towards the end of the season. |

What an amazing manager Francis was. To lose both Martyn and Penrice and still win the league. Weirdly, Parkin probably made us even tighter as a team. We were the crazy gang in Division 3 (aka League 1) and didnt care! Yep. Exactly the right manager at the right time, with the right point to prove, with players who had the humility and hunger. They performed a footballing miracle. I can’t understand why some Rovers fans look back with such bitterness at our time at Twerton. I get that there was an embarrassment about us moving there in the first place, but what a magical period of our existence that 10 years was. Even with the relegation, we still rebuilt under Ward and were the width of a crossbar and an open goal away from getting back to the second tier whilst we were there. We’ve never got anywhere near as close to the second tier since. |
